ARCH 225 Architectural History II (2-0-2) 2017-2018 Fall Semester

Course Description: As an introductory survey course to architectural history, the main objective of this course is to provide students with basic knowledge on the architecture and architectural culture of the Islamic Middle Ages (Arabic, Seljuk, Ottoman), Renaissance and Baroque. The course is covering a time interval between the Middle Ages and the end of the 19th century and discussing architectural productions and built environment within a contextual framework.

Course Objectives: This course aims to point out contrasting major ideas and their effect on the architecture. It also aims to emphasis on the parallel developments and the interactions between the cultures. At the end of the course, students are expected to demonstrate a general knowledge on building types, plan typologies and architectural styles in the above mentioned periods.

Attendance: Attendance will be taken for each course hour. The instructor may take the attendance anytime during each course hour. Students have to be there in person and sign the attendance form. A student who is not there at the moment when the attendance is taken and does not sign the form in person cannot claim presence for that course hour. Students who did not attend at least 70% of attendances during the semester will receive an NA grade. Grading: There are two written exams being one Midterm Exam and one Final Exam during the semester. Mid-Term Exam: 50%; Final Exam: 50%. Exam notes will be announced in http://arch225.cankaya.edu.tr
