Job Purpose/Safety Accountabilities
A CNS Engineer is accountable to the Manager CNS for specific responsibilities in areas defined by equipment type held.
Main Duties and Safety Responsibilities
To understand and implement the aspects of the airport Safety, Quality and Security Management systems appropriate to their role.
Responsibilities defined under CNS Maintenance Organisation Approval documents for all CNS Engineers.
Implementation and management of Maintenance Schedules and Maintenance activities.
Implementation of equipment modification and upgrade associated documentation and notification procedures.
Prominent role in installation and commissioning of new equipment and systems.
To maintain a legible and accurate account of the days events in the Engineering Log Book and familiarize themselves with previous entries.
To monitor the status of the safety related equipment in order to detect any degradation of normal operation.
Co-ordinating tactically with the ATC WM concerning the withdrawal of ATC equipment to ensure continued effectiveness and safety of the ATC services;
To notify the ATC Watch Manager/SCOD as soon as practicably possible, of any degradation to normal operation, ensuring the implementation of notification procedures is implemented.
Where so qualified, to restore degraded safety related equipment as soon as practicably possible, informing the ATC Watch Manager/ATCO of its return to service and ensuring any notification procedures are cancelled.
To maintain personal equipment type recency as specified by their PTC license.

Owner: HR Manager Issue 3.0 – 21 January 2015 Birmingham Airport Air Traffic Ltd To inform the Manager CNS of any lapse in equipment type recency as this will restrict their ability to fulfil their responsibilities.
To assist the AGL Electricians or other personnel when required by the Manager CNS or Airfield Engineering Supervisor.
To report any incident which in any way has or could have endangered aircraft safety using the BAATL ATS Safety Significant Event Report Form and, when appropriate, CAA forms SRG 1603: ATC Engineering Occurrence Report, or SRG 1602: ATC Occurrence Report forms.
To undertake such other duties commensurate with the grading of the post, which will be determined from time to time, in line with the needs of the business.
The Airport Company reserves the right to vary the duties and responsibilities of staff under Conditions prescribed in local agreements. Thus, it must be appreciated that the above duties may be altered as the future changing needs of the service may require.
