River Management Society – Northwest Chapter Meeting Minutes June 27, 2016 3:30 – 4:30 PST

On Call – Louise Kling, Ryan Turner, Martin Hudson, and Lynette Ripley Mentorship -- We have not had anything like this at RMS. Gary Marsh has been trying to start a mentorship program, so we should check with him. If there is not momentum at the national level, then we should take this to the NW Chapter. Keep it simple. Perhaps create a list of who would mentor, who wants to be mentored, etc. It’s also important to present topics that are relevant to a river manager at the conferences – something more technical (i.e., “How to Run a Successful River Ranger Program”). We could also consider having a mentor station at the Conference. Integration with California Chapter -- This is not something the NW Chapter can take in at this time. Communication – We really need to call people directly in order to get them to act. Can’t call them in the summer; have to call in the winter. Takes time, but have to do it to be successful. Membership -- Need to make a dent in our membership list – make the list and the timeline realistic. River Trips -- Update from Lynette on Rogue Lodge Trip -- Did want to follow up with the Black Bar Lodge – Becky called the owner – problem with field manager at the BLM, thought he was going to be on the trip. Misunderstanding with owner. When Colby gets back from vacation, he will handle it – back July 7. May be too late to do this now; need to arrange in January for that October. Need to focus on other options. Gave him dates in October. Usually they can max out 20 people – we asked for 12 spots. Then he gave us more spots in the end. Dictate the size based on that capacity. Really have to stay on John (owner). Follow up with Patrick and John on potential Deschutes/Snake trips? Maybe a Lower Salmon in October – but we are going to have to pinpoint people. Ryan could follow up with Patrick but he can’t do it until next week. Martin will follow-up with Jon. River Ranger Rendezvous -- Update form Ryan -- it’s a GO, but tentative June 6 -9; first two weeks in June. Ryan is working with Jo. They are working on an agenda. Chet has the agenda and all that to use. Upcoming -- Journal update due July 1
