Universal Transit Pass - September 2009
We are pleased to announce that SAIT will again be offering the cost effective Universal Transit Pass (U-Pass) option to staff* and faculty*. The U-Pass option is provided in an effort to provide an environmentally responsible transportation program focused on reducing automobile traffic, emissions and parking congestion. This program provides SAIT staff* and faculty* with an affordable transportation option rather than having to drive their cars to work and pay for parking. SAIT continues to substantially subsidize the cost of the U-Pass making it available to staff* and faculty* at about one third of the cost of a standard transit pass!
The U-Pass fee for 2009 - 2010 is $90.50 per semester and will provide unlimited transportation by train or bus. *The U-Pass is available to all SAIT staff and faculty who work nine hours or more per week. The U-Pass is non-refundable, non-transferable and is only valid while you are employed at SAIT. The fee is applicable regardless of when issued throughout the semester. The U-Pass is good for one semester only; January through April, May through August, and September through December. Salaried employees have the option of a one-time payroll deduction per semester for the U-Pass. The payroll deduction form can be found on the myEmployee tab on mySAIT under HR Forms. The form should be printed off, completed and brought to Employee Services (N1004 – Senator Burns) in order to receive a U-Pass sticker that will be attached to your SAIT ID card. [Employee Services U-Pass & ID Card Hours: 8:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday] If salaried employees prefer to pay by debit/credit card or cheque payments can be made at the cashier, Room MB205 – Heart Building. [Cashier U-Pass Hours: 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday] The cashier will issue a receipt which employees will take to Employee Services to receive their U-Pass sticker. Casual employees (who work nine hours or more per week) should take their authorized casual employment agreement (proof of employee status) to the cashier in Room MB205 – Heart Building where they will pay for their U-Pass by debit/credit card or cheque. The cashier will issue a receipt which employees can take to Employee Services – N1004 – Senator Burns to receive their U-Pass sticker. Unfortunately we cannot offer payroll deduction for casual employees. Any employees not paying through payroll deduction for U-Passes must keep their receipt(s) for income tax purposes.
Important: The U-Pass is not transferable and may be revoked by The City if it is misused or presented for transportation by any person other than the person to whom it is issued; and The City maintains the right to inspect the U-Pass used by staff or faculty and to ask staff or faculty for another form of identification to ensure that the U-Pass is being used by the person to whom it is issued; and The City maintains the right to deny staff or faculty access to the Calgary Transit system if staff or faculty do not possess a valid U-Pass or other valid pass or ticket.
SAIT was the first post-secondary institution in Alberta to join forces with a public transportation system to allow students universal access to transit services. This is especially convenient as SAIT is the only post- secondary in Calgary with an on campus C-Train station.
