Printed 4/2/08--H. 12 Read the first time February 27, 2007. 13 14 15 THE COMMITTEE ON WAYS AND MEANS 16 To whom was referred a Bill (H. 3592) to amend Section 12-37- 17 220, as amended, Code of Laws of South Carolina, 1976, relating 18 to general exemptions from property tax, so as to exempt, etc., 19 respectfully 20 REPORT: 21 That they have duly and carefully considered the same and 22 recommend that the same do pass with amendment: 23 24 Amend the bill, as and if amended, by deleting all after the 25 enacting words and inserting: 26 / SECTION 1. Section 12-37-220(B)(3) of the 1976 Code is 27 amended to read: 28 “(3)(a) Two private passenger vehicles owned or leased by 29 any disabled veteran designated by the veteran for which special 30 license tags have been issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles 31 under the provisions of Sections 56-3-1110 to 56-3-1130 or, in lieu 32 of the license, if the veteran has a certificate signed by the county 33 service officer or the Veterans Administration of the total and 34 permanent disability which must be filed with the Department of 35 Motor Vehicles. 36 (b) A motorcycle owned or leased by and licensed and 37 registered in the name of a legal resident of this State who is a 38 veteran of the armed forces of the United States who is 39 permanently and totally disabled or who has suffered the loss of a 40 limb as a result of a service - connected disability and who files 41 with the Department of Revenue a certificate signed by the county 42 service officer certifying this disability. This exemption applies to

1 [3592-1] 1 the surviving spouse of a qualified disabled veteran for the lifetime 2 or until the remarriage of the surviving spouse.” 3 SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the 4 Governor. 5 Renumber sections to conform. 6 Amend title to conform. 7 8 DANIEL T. COOPER for Committee. 9
