Mandarin Competition Congratulations to MOYA CRUDEN, AIMEE HENDRY and ROSIE DOONAN who won first prize in the Mandarin competition at Walkers-Shortbread headquarters in Aberlour last week. The task of the teams was to present the business vocabulary and etiquette they have learned in Mandarin this year to the top executive sales team at Walkers-Shortbread. The managers judging the presentations were very impressed by the professional –looking performances. They reminded us all that modern languages are essential in their business since they promote and sell their products all around the world. The other participants were ROWAN SEARLE, KACPER GORLCZYK, ISLA HEPBURN, LEAH HOBSON, CARA MACKENZIE, EMMA NAIRN, GRACE SALT. All left with goodie bags full of a variety of shortbread.

Could all remaining S3 & S4 Students who has a locker, please empty it and return the key to Mrs Meikleham room G50 (next to Mr Webster’s Office)

The Mountain bike world cup series takes place in Fort William, on the weekend of the 2nd June. Free tickets are available to staff and pupils for the weekend, including uplift on the gondola. If you are interested in attending the event please register your interest at the PE department.

Calling all singers! – Do you enjoy singing? Do you want to help raise money to help children in Syria? Then we need you! On Thursday 18th May there is a charity concert at the Town Hall to raise money for Unicef, to help children in Syria. We would like anyone who enjoys singing in a group for this event to come along to a meeting on Monday lunchtime at 1.10 pm in the music department. Any singers from any year are welcome!

Big Summer Reading Event – The Novelties Book Club is planning a Big Dawn to Dusk Bookathon for Wednesday 7 June for staff and pupils. This is very exciting and all are encouraged to join in for part of this event during the day. Read, raise money to buy books and have fun too! More details in the coming weeks.

S1-S3

Could all S2 Students who has a locker, please empty it and return their key to Mrs Meikleham at the Blue Floor Locker Area during registration on Friday 28-04-17. PLEASE REMEMBER TO EMPTY YOUR LOCKER COMPLETELY FIRST.

S1 Elective Forms – Can anyone who has not yet handed in an elective choice form please do so as a matter of urgency. We need this information for your S2 timetables. Spare copies are available from Mrs Munro or from the school office. Thanks.

S3 Belgium Trip All pupils going on the Belgium theme park trip should hand in their EHIC cards as soon as possible. If you do not have one then you can apply https://www.gov.uk/european-health-insurance-card. Please see Miss Ainslie if there is any problems.

S3 – names listed below are invited to an assembly with Mr K Scott during registration on Thursday 27th April. Pupils should report to registration, register and then make their way to the hall.

S3 into 4 – Wider Achievement Choices The deadline for the return of your wider achievement choices has now passed. As a matter of urgency can you please ensure that your completed choice form is returned to your register teacher. Many thanks for those already in. (KJG) S4-S6

S4/5/6 Pupils Studying Drama - Exam Week Reminder: Friday 28th April Higher Exam All higher drama candidates should report to regie briefly then make their way to B57. All N5 pupils who have been selected as audience members should report to B57 at 11am ALL CANDIDATES MUST SUBMIT COMPLETED FOLIOS AND PREP LOGS, if they haven’t already done so.

S4 Hospitality All pupils who have work to complete in the added value unit must arrange a time to come up and catch up. This can be lunch times and after school. Please see Miss Ainslie ASAP.

Considering a period of study in the USA? – Gordonstoun are hosting a lecture on the process of preparing an application to study in America and finding out more about the American college system. This is to take place in November of this year. If interested and for more details, please let your Guidance teacher know. (CF)

Two fantastic trainee positions are available as an alternative to University at Robertson. Trainee Quantity surveyor and Trainee Estimator. Full details are available on the Robertson website and on the Employment notice board outside Guidance. Please speak to Mrs Bowley if you wish to note your interest. These are 3-4 year trainee positions where you earn while you learn. www.robertson.co.uk/current- vacancies. Applications are only accepted online via the links on the advert. QS requires higher Maths, and although the Trainee Estimator says ideally HNC in construction related subject for the right candidate Higher Maths & Higher English would suffice, Robertson would then support you through a HNC.

RGU nursing Summer School 17 th – 24 th July 2017 Any pupil over the age of 16 years who is actively considering a career in nursing has the opportunity to attend a nursing summer school in Aberdeen. This is an excellent opportunity to experience clinical nursing practice prior to an applicati0n to study nursing . This however does not address midwifery. Application forms available from your guidance teacher or Mrs Bowley. Closing date for applications is 5th May.
