Progress from STARDUST meeting 7th August 2002

1. Interview and appoint clinical engineer. Mark H, Phil and Simon Completed

2. Ensure all recorded speech files are appropriate for training of the recogniser. Mark P (after discussion with Nassos) The stardust command vocubularly words have been checked

3. Re-visit PH to obtain further feedback on recogniser and GUI. Mark P and Nassos Completed

4. Visit 1 more stable dysarthric and 2 moderate (recruited for OLP) for feedback on software training package. Mark P and Rebecca Completed

Summary of current feedback When asking the user to say a word, sugestion that the word itself becomes the traffic lights (ie text turns from red to green) Seeing the sound wave at the same time as speaking was deemed too technical Screen layout wasn’t too cluttered Liked the consistency graph (left hand side graph) Would like a reason why a certain utterance was miss-recognised.

5. Obtain feedback on the software from speech and language professionals. Mark P Scheduled for 20th September

6. Provide an estimation of the amount of time necessary to recruit new people, perform initial assessments, obtain data, tag, etc. Based on this a decision will be made as to how many people to include in the field evaluation. Mark P Agenda item – MP Estimated time Finding people: Dont know how long Initial interview, explanation, consent: 1 session (inc travel) Frenchay assessment, picture description, kent minimal pairs, taking video : 1-2 sessions Inteligibility rating, organise, conduct, score: 2 sessions Description of stardust vocab and first recording: 1 session Recording of 2 more lists (10*10): 2-3 sessions Enpointing: 2-3 sessions

Overall about 10 sessions per client

7. Amend software to include: Nassos and James a) When recognising a word, the right hand graph indicates the word with the highest score based on the ‘word’ recognition, rather than the ‘sil’ ‘word’ ‘sil’ combination. Completed b) When asking the user to say a specific word as well as the traffic lights, the word itself changes colour in sequence with the traffic lights. Completed c) Fix ‘bugs’ so that new clients can be added and that the Frenchay and minimal pairs etc. tests can be performed. Ongoing – Stuart to take over responsibility d) Automatic mouse movement so that the ‘record’ and ‘next’ button can be operated without moving the mouse with a single mouse click. A mouse can then be adapted to allow for a switch press. Ongoing – Stuart, Peter O’neill and James

8. Collect baseline data for training phase of project from currently active users and from more if resources allow (see 6). Mark P Some has been completed but other people are dependant on the choice of microphone to be determined at the next meeting

9. Continue efforts with word spotting mode. Nassos Stuart to address after completion of ongoing work

10. Obtain the views of Medilink on IPR potential. Mark H, and in the meantime, ensure that the STARDUST software is not publicly available. Phil Completed – agenda item

11. Continue efforts with a paper based on consistency of speech. Phil and Mark P Ongoing

12. Enhance recogniser performance. I.e. different number of states for different words. Nassos and James Agenda item

13. Create optimum recognisers for all users for the field study. Nassos/James Agenda item
