B. 24 McMahand, and served by her as associate pastor, was the site of 25 the inspiring event; and 26 27 Whereas, Pastor Hilda McMahand earned a Masters of Theology 28 degree from the Southern Bible Seminary in Birmingham, 29 Alabama, and served the Christian Methodist denomination for 30 twenty-one years and pastored five churches before her marriage in 31 1973; and 32 33 Whereas, this stepmother to six children, grandmother of nineteen, 34 and great-grandmother of twenty-seven, has devoted her life to her 35 family, her church, and her community; and 36 37 Whereas, her contributions to Flat Rock Baptist and the Greenville 38 County Ministers’ Wives and Widows group have enhanced the 39 spiritual lives of countless people; and 40 41 Whereas, her community efforts include active participation in the 42 Democratic Women and United Ministries, and her vital and
1 [4237] 1 1 inspirational outreach also includes the authorship of two books, 2 Stop the Killing and Thou Shall Not Kill; and 3 4 Whereas, it is a privilege for the General Assembly to pay tribute 5 to South Carolinians who invest so much energy and love in their 6 fellow citizens. Now, therefore, 7 8 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate 9 concurring: 10 11 That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South 12 Carolina, by this resolution, recognize the Reverend Hilda 13 McMahand of Greenville County on the occasion of her 14 seventy-fifth birthday and express heartfelt gratitude for her many 15 years of service to her church and her community. 16 17 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 18 the Reverend Hilda McMahand. 19 ----XX---- 20
