HITZ Project Officer - Rochdale
Sharks Community Trust is looking for an enthusiastic and inspiring team player who has a proven ability to plan and deliver high quality classroom based activities to young people not previously in education, employment or training. You will combine a passion for sport and education with strong organisational, communication and administrative skills. As well as delivering classroom sessions, you will also require the ability to plan/deliver a number of sporting sessions to help engage positively with challenging young people.

Salary: £18K-£20K depending on experience

HITZ is a social inclusion programme that uses rugby and sport to engage and inspire young people. The HITZ Officer will be required to work with 16-19 year olds delivering classroom based sessions as well as a number of additional sporting activities to young people who have previously been disengaged from the education system.
The successful candidate will also be expected to recruit, engage, retain and direct young people onto the HITZ programme, deliver a Level 1 qualification, functional skills and employability sessions and then progress them on to a positive destination.
The position will be based at Rochdale Rugby Club and due to the nature of the work some evening and weekend work may be required. Applicants will ideally hold a valid driving license and have access to a suitable vehicle.
The successful applicant will be representing Sale Sharks, hence must be professional, approachable and personable at all times, promoting themselves and the club in a positive light. Key Responsibilities
To work with a variety of partners and stakeholders to recruit young people onto the programme.
To develop, in conjunction with the HITZ Manager suitable classroom sessions for 16- 19 year olds including a Level 1 Award in Lifestyle Management, functional skills in English and Moths, and employability skills.
To secure work placements opportunities for all participants.
To organize and lead sporting sessions at identified venues, coordinating competitions and other events as appropriate. All activities should be appropriate to the needs of the target audience and be line with the HITZ strategic aims.
To deliver and support a number of issue based sessions developed in conjunction with the Sale Sharks HITZ Manager.
To keep accurate monitoring records for all participants including interview forms, application forms and regular individual learning plans (ILPs).
To keep accurate reports of sessions and contribute to the gathering and analysis of evaluation information on the VIEWS system for activities and individuals within those activities.
To work in partnership to progress participants on to an apprenticeship or full time employment.
To produce update reports for the Project Manager and funding agencies and related partners as required.
Person Specification
Essential Experience of working within a classroom/educational environment. Experience of working with disengaged young people. Experience of delivering sporting sessions.to a range of participants with differing levels of ability and interest. A passion for sport and an understanding of wider issues related to sport, health and education An enthusiastic and committed individual who will ‘go the extra mile’ to deliver results Good organisation and time management skills Excellent communication and motivation skills Willingness to work flexible hours An ability to inspire others
Desirable Teaching qualification (or be prepared to work towards). NGB Level 1 coaching awards Degree qualified – strong academic record Previous experience of working within a sporting environment Experience of working in an educational setting with knowledge of assessment and monitoring and evaluation A valid driving license and access to own vehicle
The successful candidate will have to undergo an enhanced DBS check to work with children and vulnerable adults.
