AN ORGANISATION THAT PROMOTES CHOICE AND CONTROL, EQUALITY AND INCLUSION

HAFAD aims to make sure that disabled people have the necessary support to be able to be in control of our environments and lifestyles and have effective information to make appropriate choices. HAFAD promotes the equality and inclusion of disabled people, through the provision of a range of high quality, professionally managed and appropriately funded services meeting needs identified by disabled people.

AN ORGANISATION OF DISABLED PEOPLE, REPRESENTING DISABLED PEOPLE

HAFAD is an independent organisation that is effectively and professionally controlled by and represents all disabled people living and working within the diverse communities of Hammersmith and Fulham. HAFAD will make sure that the needs, experiences and interests of all disabled people are reflected within Hammersmith and Fulham, both individually and collectively and that there is an effective forum for consultation with disabled people in the Borough.

AN ORGANISATION THAT IS WELL MANAGED, STRUCTURED AND FUNDED

HAFAD aims to develop an appropriate and professional organisational structure, build an effective and productive working environment for staff, volunteers and members and make sure that it has all the resources it needs to deliver a high quality of service. HAFAD (Hammersmith and Fulham Action on Disability) was founded in 1979 as an independent organisation controlled and managed by disabled people living or working in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. For 25 years it has provided a focus for issues related to disabled people in the Borough and has developed itself as a campaigning voice to ensure that the needs and aspirations of the disabled community are effectively represented in the mainstream of local service provision.

HAFAD has been concerned to reflect the interests and experiences of all disabled people and to challenge the often- negative stereotypes and assumptions made about us.

HAFAD, in partnership with Hammersmith and Fulham Council, has developed a range of specific services to meet identified needs within the disabled community; services rooted in HAFAD’s driving values of equality and inclusion.

During this time, HAFAD has developed from a small group of committed people working as volunteers to ensure that the voice of disabled people is heard and respected, to an organisation with a membership of nearly one and a half thousand people, employing over 20 staff and having an annual turnover of three quarters of a million pounds. HAFAD is based close to the River Thames and Bishops Park and is near a range of facilities in Hammersmith and Putney and offers 25 days holiday a year, four recess days and a contributory pension scheme.
