DISTINCTION AWARDS - CRITERIA

Nominations:

Nominations for the PCC Distinction Awards must be submitted to the PCC Board of Directors by January 1, 2015. Ports/Harbors/Marinas, Managers, Directors, Sustaining Members and all other related members may nominate individuals or a Port/Harbor/Marina for awards, as per the nomination criteria outlined in the Nomination Categories and Criteria section of this document.

In order to make a nomination, simply complete the attached nomination form, ensuring Sections 1-3 are complete in full.

Eligibility:

Any individual or Port/Harbor/Marina involved with the management of a Port/Harbor/Marina who meets the nomination criteria for their respective category, is eligible for an award.

Awards:

There are three (3) possible award categories; Individual Commitment, Port / Harbor / Marina Achievement and Environmental Stewardship, as per the Nomination Categories and Criteria section.

The number and type of awards presented is dependent on the number of meritorious candidates and may vary from year to year. Award recipients and their nominator(s) will be notified of the selection committee’s decision by February 1, 2015. The award presentations will take place at the PCC Annual Membership Conference. Selection: The PCC Board of Directors will review the nominations and make the decision on recipients of the awards.

Nomination Categories and Criteria

Individual Commitment Award:

This award recognizes individual commitment by honoring individuals who have shown an extraordinary dedication to the ongoing success of their Port/Harbor/Marina and/or significant contribution to the Pacific Coast Congress of Harbormasters & Port Managers Inc.

 Individuals have initiated a client service or development project at their Port/Harbor/Marina and/or through their involvement with their Harbor Board/Port Commission have contributed to the promotion, advancement and success of their Port/Harbor/Marina.  Individuals must have engaged and worked effectively with their Port/Harbor/Marina peers, users, their community and or the PCC.

 Individuals must have, in the past year, been a member of the PCC. Port/Harbor/Marina Achievement Award:

This category recognizes Port/Harbor/Marina Achievement. Nominations are judged on their demonstrated commitment to the ongoing success of the Port/Harbor/Marina through the development of projects, initiatives or services that exceed normal practices or statutory duties and seek to provide a benefit not just to facility users but to the community at large.

 The Port/Harbor/Marina must have initiated a revenue generating or community benefiting facility improvement project.

 In the successful completion of their project, the Port/Harbor/Marina must have shown leadership in the project planning and management, in meeting regulatory requirements, in exploring outside funding options and in developing positive community relationships.

Environmental Stewardship Award:

This category recognizes environmental stewardship demonstrated by a Port/Harbor/Marina. Nominees are judged on their commitment to the environment as evidenced by an initiative or service that has produced measurable, positive change and/or has succeeded in addressing or mitigating an environmental issue at their Port/Harbor/Marina.

 The Port/Harbor/Marina must have initiated a project or harbor service, in partnership or consultation with Clean Marine Programs in your state/province or relevant environmental agencies, which has resulted in an improvement to the harbor environment and/or the mitigation of an environmental issue or concern.

 The Port/Harbor/Marina must have demonstrated environmental commitment though recognized participation in an environmental workshop or training opportunity (e.g. habitat compensation, grid use and maintenance, spill response, etc.).

 The Port/Harbor/Marina must have a current Environmental Management Plan (EMP) in place. Recognition Program
