The 2008 Jemez Mountains Science Symposium

Dear friends and colleagues,

We are renewing the annual Jemez Mountains Science Symposium this spring, for the purpose of informing the regional scientific community of current research and management programs in the Jemez Mountains. With this call for papers, we would like to invite researchers and resource managers in the Jemez Mountains region to participate in giving oral presentations on their science projects. Details are as follows:

When: Friday, March 28th, 2008 – 8 AM to 5 PM.

Where: Santa Fe Community College, Room 216 (Lecture Hall) 6401 Richards Ave., Santa Fe, NM 87508

Format: 12 minute talks (~10 minutes for presentation, ~2 minutes for questions).

Subjects: Ecology, wildlife, fisheries, range, forestry, limnology, hydrology, geology, cultural resources, fire, climate, invasive species, biodiversity, soils…, i.e., anything related to natural and cultural resources!

Presentation Sign-ups: Please send information on your presentation to Bob Parmenter (details below); include title, presenter, coauthors, and contact information (phone, email, address for presenter).

Symposium proceedings: We will compile and publish (electronically) a proceedings of the symposium that will include each presentation’s abstract (up to ~500 words) and one figure and one data/results table. The proceedings will be publicly available on the Valles Caldera Trust web site shortly after the symposium (http://www.vallescaldera.gov).

Lunch/breaks: The Santa Fe Community College has a cafeteria in the building where symposium participants can purchase lunch/snack materials, or participants can BYO food and non-alcoholic beverages.

Given that the last Jemez Mountains Symposium was held 4 years ago in 2004, we anticipate that there may be a large number of papers ready for presentation. As we will be limited to approximately 35 presentations, we will accept presentations on a first-come basis. We will then group the accepted presentations into program categories based on topic similarities. If particular speakers are schedule-limited during the day (e.g., can only be present in the morning, etc.), please let us know so we can schedule you accordingly.

Presentations should be in Powerpoint, and will need to be provided to the organizers by Wednesday, March 26 th , for computer uploading.
