BAGS CAPTAIN’S DAY 2 (DELAYED) AT THE CHIPPENHAM GOLF CLUB – FRIDAY 14 SEPTEMBER 2007!
Well we finally made it to Chippenham Golf Club for Captain’s Day 2 or should that be David Lindsey Day judging by the results!
After a very warm welcome of coffee and bacon sandwiches by the Club, the contest for the morning competition, the Concord Cup, started in dry fine weather. Again as for Captain’s Day 3 it was a pair of Tail-end Charlie’s that wrapped up the silverware in fine style having started with a nett birdie and eagle! Runners-up were the illustrious pair of Mark Wright and Marc Coombs with 42 pts against the winners’ 45 pts. Mark also cleaned up the Longest Drive having conned the other Marc to only hit a 3 wood! Nearest the Pin in the morning and for that matter the afternoon was ‘Dead Eyed’ David Lindsey.
Re-energized by a soup and sandwiches lunch, the afternoon competition for the R S Brown Trophy was a runaway affair by that well-known trio of David Gray, David Lindsey (again) and Chris Sheahan who achieved 82 pts, streets ahead of the runners up whose names escape me for the moment but it might have been Marc Coombs, Bob McMichael and Chris Sheahan: not all the score cards were passed to the Captain! No guesses for Nearest the Pin, yes it was that man Lindsey again! Longest Drive this time went to the ‘I play golf the wrong way round’ long drive supremo – Ross Neil!
After a wash and brush up, the small band of 9 BAGS members sat down to a most enjoyable meal of Moroccan lamb shank, caramelized apple pie and coffee. On its conclusion, the Captain thanked everyone for taking part and pushed the wheelbarrow full of loot round to David Lindsey. He reminded everyone about the Scratch and Chairman’s Cup on Saturday 22 September 2007.
