TEXTBOOK AND SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIALS  Essentials of Statistics, by Mario Triola, Pearson Publishing, packaged with MyStatLab student access code. A physical textbook is not required, but is recommended. Access to Pearson MyLab & Mastering is required.  Calculators are strongly suggested for the tests and exam.  Use of tablet or laptop computers during tests or exams will NOT be permitted.

TEACHING METHODS Class time will consist of lecture with discussion, examples, and opportunities to practice problems and ask questions. I appreciate your efforts in responding to my questions, and your classmates’ questions. I strongly encourage you to ask questions and make comments on the material presented or on the homework problems; the course will be more interesting with your participation.

EVALUATION TECHNIQUES Your grade will depend upon the points you earn in the areas listed below:

 Homework: 200 points 40 %  Tests: 2 @ 100 points each 40 %  Final Exam: 100 points 20 %  Extra Credit: 50 points Total Point Basis 500 points

Homework Homework will be assigned through the Pearson MyLab & Mastering (MyStatLab) online system. The MML program will grade each assignment as soon as you complete it. You do not need to turn in any homework to the instructor. There will be an assignment for most textbook sections.

Textbook section homework assignments have specific due dates which are based on our schedule through the course. You can work on assignments after the due date, but doing the homework as the course proceeds will best prepare you for the tests and final exam. The general link for Pearson is: (to buy access and register) http://www.pearsonmylabandmastering.com/northamerica/

The link to logon to MyStatLab is: http://portal.mypearson.com/mypearson-login.jsp

For additional help with MyStatLab, contact Linda Joyce at [email protected] , 918-595-7751, in Room 8150 (the TCC SE Math Lab).

Tests There will be 2 tests over the course of the semester, one for chapters 1 - 5, and one for chapters 6 - 10. Each is worth 100 points (20%) of your course grade. See the calendar at the end of the syllabus for dates.

Tests will be taken in class on paper covering the announced chapters of the textbook. You will be allowed to use the reference formulas and statistical tables from the textbook (and posted on Blackboard). Graphing or Scientific calculators with Statistics are recommended for the tests and exam. Laptops and tablets are not allowed.

You will enter your answers on the test itself, and they should be clearly identified. You may want to bring scratch paper to work the problems. You can turn in your scratch paper and possibly get partial credit for questions you did not get correct, if your work is partially correct and readable.

Final Exam There will be a comprehensive final exam in class on paper. You will be allowed to use the reference formulas and statistical tables from the textbook (and posted on Blackboard). Graphing or Scientific calculators with Statistics are recommended for the tests and exam. Laptops and tablets are not allowed.
