YOU MUST PRE-ENROLL ONE WEEK BEFORE CLASS IN ORDER TO RESERVE YOUR SPOT!!!! TIME & TALENT/CHARITY PROJECTS Alzheimer Quilt Charity Sew: Donate your time and talent to help sew a lap quilt for a person with Alzheimer’s disease. The local Alzheimer’s Association is the organization of choice for The Sewing Center and we devote our time and talent to creating an item of comfort and therapy for someone who has little or no contact with loved ones or friends. We have precut the quilt kits; you provide the time and talent to put them together. As always, many hands make the task easier and more fun, so join us for an afternoon or evening of sewing, friends and fun! Please call if you plan to attend. GET TO KNOW YOUR MACHINE Sewing Machine Classes are offered by special appointment to persons who have purchased a sewing machine from The Sewing Center. This class includes the basics of machine operation and the best methods for using all the accessories of your machine. Bring your machine with all the attachments and we’ll show you how to use it. For others needing a date with their machine, the cost is $50.00 per lesson, and each sessions is 2 to 3 hours long. Learn Your Serger: Free for those who have purchased a serger from The Sewing Center. For those that didn’t purchase their machine from The Sewing Center, it is $50.00 per class. Bring your serger and accessories and learn all that it can do and learn to do it efficiently. Elna 740/7200/7300 Class: Free for those who purchased their machine from The Sewing Center. For those that didn’t purchase their machine from The Sewing Center, it is $50.00 per class.  Applique introduces the applique stitches and features of the Elna 740/7200/7300.  Machine Accessories introduces the standard and optional accessories available on the Elna 740/7200/7300.  Heirloom Techniques introduces the heirloom stitches and features of the Elna 740/7200/7300. SEWING TECHNIQUES CLASSES Adult Basic Sew: 4 sessions, $50.00 includes book, supplies extra. This class is designed to teach the novice or to reacquaint the reluctant sewer with basic clothing construction. Sewing projects are individually geared to each student’s skills and desires. You will learn many speed tips and correct measuring techniques of the pattern and body for a more accurate fit. Come sew with us. QUILTING TECHNIQUE CLASSES Machine Embroidered Techniques Quilt: 6 sessions, $90 plus supplies. A supply list will be available January 1, 2011. This will be a medallion quilt with various machine embroidery techniques. Angie will teach stabilizers, design placement techniques, marking and hooping. In addition to the usual machine embroidery, appliqué in the hoop, stitch stacking and machine embroidered cutwork will be a part of your quilt. We will also learn quilting in sections. To finish this quilt within the six sessions, you must work outside of class. Medallion 9-Patch: 3 sessions, $40 includes pattern, supplies extra. This is an original pattern designed by Rena Olson. If you have a large print you do not want to cut up like a large floral or oriental print, this is the perfect quilt for this fabric. Add coordinating fabrics to crete a unique work of art. Your will have a choice of two sizes for the medallion – 42” or 30”. Come see the store sample. THE SEWING CENTER www.thesewingcenterwichita.com [email protected] 316-832-0819 CLASS DESCRIPTIONS (PAGE 2) Quilts of Valor Star Blocks: 3 sessions, $45 includes fabric. We want you for QOV! This class will teach you how to make the various star blocks that are used in Quilts of Valor. Each lesson will teach you how to make two star block patterns. You will get to choose one pattern as a sample for yourself to take home. Blocks will be donated to the Quilts of Valor-Kansas Bee. Our own Martha, a QOV Kansas Bee member, will teach you the techniques to make each of the star blocks. If you have wanted to be a part of this great organization that gives comfort to our injured service members, but were afraid to because you didn’t know how to quilt, here is your chance to get involved, meet some new people, and honor our men and women in the military. Seasonal Placemats: 3 sessions, $75 includes supplies. This is a scrappy design in which basic piecing, appliqué and quilting techniques will be taught. Applique designs and color scheme will reflect the “season”. This is a fun way to dip your hand into quilting and a few other techniques without committing yourself to a large project. Techniques of Quilting: ENROLLMENT CLOSED. If you are interested in this series of classes, please contact us to put your name on the list for the next session. This class will meet approximately 15 times during the 4th quarter 2010 and 1st and 2nd quarter of 2011. This class is not machine specific. We will cover precision techniques for machine piecing for various basic blocks. Quilting and the specifics of producing a quality quilted product will also be addressed. This is a great sequence of classes with a huge amount of information and skill building. MACHINE EMBROIDERY Elna 8300/8600, 9500/9600: Free for those who have purchased their machine from The Sewing Center. For those that didn’t purchase their machine from The Sewing Center, it is $50.00 per class. A fee of $15.00 PER CLASS will apply to all students who purchased their machines from The Sewing Center prior to 2009 to cover the kit prices. YOU MUST CALL OR EMAIL TO RESERVE YOUR SPOT IN THIS CLASS BY THE THURSDAY PRECEDING CLASS! KITS WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR THOSE WHO SHOW UP FOR CLASS AND DO NOT RSVP, NO EXCEPTIONS!

 January: Patch Perfection - Caps and bags will be part of your gift ideas once you learn how to make a patch and apply it to those hard to hoop items.  February: Embroidery on Towels - We will cover tea towels and bath towels, stabilizers, hooping and embroidery design considerations.  March: Embroidery on Bedding - Need gifts for those upcoming graduations and weddings or an early start to Christmas 2011? Monogrammed and embroidered bedding sets are great gifts and embroidering them yourself makes the gift much more special. You will learn the layout and hooping techniques and stabilizers to produce an expensive looking but simple gift.

Embroidery Club: YOU MUST CALL OR EMAIL TO RESERVE YOUR SPOT IN THIS CLASS BY THE THURSDAY PRECEDING CLASS! KITS WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR THOSE WHO SHOW UP FOR CLASS AND DO NOT RSVP, NO EXCEPTIONS! This is a machine embroidery project club that is not machine specific. All that is required is that you know how to operate your embroidery machine. A complete kit with instructions will be available each month for the project. There will always be machine embroidery involved and possibly some machine sewing to complete the item. THE SEWING CENTER www.thesewingcenterwichita.com [email protected] 316-832-0819 CLASS DESCRIPTIONS (PAGE 3) Embroidery Club (continued):  January: Go Green with a Personalized Shopping Tote – $25 includes kit – A bag or tote may be one of those difficult to hoop items that we avoid but there are several options to personalize or make it your own!  February: Beach Bag – $30 includes kit – What can you do with an embroidered towel besides hang it up and look at it? Let’s turn that towel into a fun bag that can be used for almost anything except decorating!  March: Embroidered Table Runner – $30 includes kit – This will be a small table runner or dresser scarf with standard machine embroidery along with some cutwork and heirloom techniques in the hoop.

MISCELLANEOUS PROJECTS, TECHNIQUES, DEMOS New Techniques in Applique – Project/Tool Caddy: 2 sessions, $30 includes pattern, supplies extra. Learn about some new techniques and new products for appliqué and embellishment. This is a hanging bag with various sized pockets that are a perfect work area to try out the new techniques. Razzle Dazzle Britches: 2 sessions, $25 includes appliqué patterns, supplies extra. Fun embellishments for jeans; learn how to get that $200 look for just pennies and turn your jeans into designer wear. This is also a good class those who have an embroidery machine. Let’s razzle dazzle! Spring Bag: 2 sessions, $15 includes pattern, supplies extra. Use up some of your scraps on this bag. Stitch, embellish, and quilt with your machine. You will receive some unique designs for embellishment. Stabilizer Workshop and Demo: one session, $25, workbook included. We will demystify the world of stabilizers for you in this workshop. Learn what stabilizers work best in different situations like towels, sweatshirts,fleece, knits, paper, denim, cotton, lace, heirloom. Angie will demonstrate the different applications for each type. Lecture with demos.

CLASS POLICIES

PRE-ENROLLMENT: Required for ALL classes. A class will not be held if there are fewer than two students. REFUNDS: If you cancel one week prior to class you will receive a full refund. If you cancel within 6 days of class you will receive credit towards another class or store merchandise only. CLASS ATTENDANCE ISSUES: Please be mindful of starting class times. The stated class time means you have your machine and supplies ready so the instructor can start the class. Arriving late or unprepared with regards to machine, accessories, etc. means a delay for everyone attending the class. Unpreparedness or tardiness turns a two hour class into a three hour class that many did not schedule themselves for including the instructor. Please arrive 10-15 minutes early so your questions and issues may be addressed and you can set up your sewing space prior to the start of class. Thank you. CELL PHONES: Please be respectful of others around you. If you must be available via cell phone during class, please excuse yourself from the classroom during lectures and demonstrations BASIC SEWING/QUILTING KIT: Bring scissors, pins, tape measure, fabric markers, rotary cutters, mat, safety pins. USE OF SEWING CENTER EQUIPMENT/SUPPLIES: There will be an additional charge of $5.00 to use our machines and/or supplies. CHILDREN: Please do not bring your children with you without permission from the instructor prior to class. CANCELLATIONS OR INCLEMENT WEATHER: If we cancel or postpone a class, you will have the choice of receiving a full refund on the class fee or full credit. Classes will be cancelled if road conditions are hazardous. If you are not sure if class will be held, PLEASE CALL.
