*Meeting was called to order at 3:35 p.m. *Reviewed April Minutes *Adoption of minutes with changes noted *Motion carried to adopt April minutes

*The following items were discussed and brought to the table: *SAFETY – Mr. Mooy and Mr. Granado - discovered some issues during last fire drill - panel not completely functional; las fire drill took longer than normal - concern – portable 18 and 19 back stairs face each other (inappropriate for evacuation) - priority work order placed to address concern - proposed a last drill before end of school year

*Mr. Granado reported: - bus rerouting approved for new school year 2013-2014 (safety reasons and concerns) - letter will be sent to inform parents of new system and drop-off areas - another intruder caught in building (part of safety audit) - day of fire drill, right before fire drill campus officers caught intruder in building (young gentlemen mistaken for intern or substitute) - needs and will place monitor in 500 hall area effective Thursday, May 9, 2013

*Welcomed Mrs. Flores from DSC

*ATTENDANCE – Mrs. Herrera / Ms. Tomczuk - March attendance 96.98% ; April attendance 96.94% - 4 point drop - promote and encourage attendance (Mrs. Tyler) - retentions are possible due to excessive absences (Mr. Nunn) - address all issues

*EPAC - Mrs. Gonzalez - new meeting to be held on May 16 ; will update until next SIT meeting (new school year)

*NEW BUSINESS - Mr. Mooy reviewed proposal for TPR and Kinesthetic Academic Vocabulary - first 9 weeks cover one kinesthetic vocabulary word per lesson (every teacher – every subject area) - following 9-week periods include one kinesthetic vocabulary word per week - document in lesson plans / walk-throughs - to become as part of our campus improvement plan - motion carried for adoption

*Bluebonnet Initiative – Mr. Mooy and Mrs. Pena - appropriate for 3rd – 6th grades at this point - goal is Bluebonnet Award - 20 books adopted by Texas Library Association; books written by notorious authors - 5 books qualifies students to become memebers - approximately a $2,000 investment; pending approval through SIT, school budget, etc. - proved to be successful to promote literacy - assessments required - AR tested - motion carried for approval and adoption of program

*AYP – Mr. Nunn - preparing for SSI – retesting begins week of May 13, 2013 (Tuesday and Wednesday) - plans for 5th and 8th grades intensive summer school program offered at campus is in progress - program to consider absence and/or classroom issues - final campus grade given after second administration - a 5% increase expected after second assessment administration

*Mrs. Tyler: - accentuate the positive efforts / actions of 5th graders to improve and recognize abilities - encourage and help students

*Mrs. Flores: - praised collaborative effort to help students become successful - noted new system for evaluating final grade for STAAR (AYP)
