Carrie Allen
Carrie Allen (B.A.) an archaeologist by training is recognized as a talented and experienced archaeological illustrator and technical artist. A tireless volunteer with the Museum of Antiquities, Carrie also works as a technical artist for several departments at the University of Saskatchewan.
With the Museum she has participated in four major exhibits and prepared reproductions of ancient Egyptian, Greek, Roman, and Celtic artworks. Other reproductions she has created are hanging in museums in the U.S.A. and in private homes. She has also been formally trained in advanced forensic sculpture whereby faces are reconstructed from skulls.
Carrie has been working as a professional technical artist for six years, drawing a variety of objects from fossils to phalanges. She counts medical illustration as one of her specialties. Working with the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, Carrie has now illustrated a textbook of Human Osteology, showcased in the University Authors Exhibit, which is available through the CRC Press. Her contribution derives from the more than 200 pen and ink drawings she did for the Human Osteology and Skeletal Radiology: an atlas and guide. She is very proud of compliments these drawings have received in scientific and medical reviews of this book. Carrie’s work serves as a reminder that in many disciplines artistic illustration can be more effective than photography or graphic design.
Carrie has volunteered to share her expertise with children by teaching various classes in the fields of art, archaeology and history at schools in Regina, Saskatoon and various small towns. She welcomes the opportunity to come and share her unique talents with children of all ages, as long as the desire is there. During the summer of 2004, she also held young adult art workshops at the Museum of Antiquities.
Ever the promoter of the Museum of Antiquities, Carrie reminds everyone to attend the forthcoming exhibit “Gifts of the Gods,” on ancient adornment at the Museum of Antiquities. Royalty is expected to attend…
