Come to a Free Orientation, or call to schedule one for your group! LIFE Center for Independent Living (LIFE CIL), in association with Connect Transit, is offering a FREE Transit Orientation class. You’ll learn about: fixed-route, or “regular” bus service, and Connect Mobility (the ADA Paratransit option provided by Connect Transit); how to read the new bus maps; how to plan your trip; who may be eligible for Paratransit service and how to apply. The Peace and Conflict Resolution Studies Program at Illinois State University is accepting nominations and self-nominations for the Grabill-Homan Community Peace Prize, which is named for Joseph L. Grabill and Gerlof D. Homan, Illinois State University emeritus professors of history who helped establish the interdisciplinary Peace and Conflict Resolution Studies Program. The Grabill-Homan Community Peace Prize recognizes individual achievements in peacemaking, leadership, community service, and activism. The award recipient will be presented with a plaque at a reception in the Spring of 2017. To be eligible, a nominee must be a resident of Bloomington or Normal and be at least 21 years of age. Eligible individuals must have a record of participation in peacemaking activities in the community. Examples of such activities include activities in the areas of civil rights, cross-cultural understanding, economic and social justice, environmental protection, as well as activities that help advance peace and human dignity. Nominees should have a record of peaceful conflict resolution, leadership, integrity, and compassion and demonstrate respect for all individuals. Nominees may demonstrate these personal attributes and a record of peacemaking activities in any area, including the workplace, family life, or volunteer work. The following materials are required for all nominations or self-nominations for the Grabill-Homan Community Peace Prize: - Nominees should provide a brief resume that highlights their relevant peacemaking activities. - Two letters of support are required. These letters should be from individuals who can speak to the impact of the nominee’s activities and initiatives on the community. - A brief 300-500 word description of a community need that should receive public attention is also required. This description should be written by the nominee, and the community need should have a peace and conflict resolution dimension. Saturday, November 19 - Tips to Organize Your Records NOW, Before They’re Needed Often times there is no advance notice about the loss of ability to manage our affairs. There are too many papers in too many places. What’s most current or essential? Recognizing that tomorrow is unknown, Sonja Reece launched into a process of organizing her records. Making important documents and information easy to find helps her and will be essential should a loved one need to step in. Join Reece of Advocate Bromenn Healthcare at 10am in the Library’s Community Room to learn what critical records to assemble in an easy-to- find location. In this one hour session, you’ll be motivated to get organized, receive a spreadsheet listing essential records, and learn how to assemble your own Grab and Go binder. Saturday, November 19 - Global Tales On the third Saturday of each month, plan to join Illinois Wesleyan University international students at 11am in the Children’s Department as they read stories about the countries they come from and give cultural lessons about the diversity of our world. A different country and book will be featured at each session. There will also be fun activities such as simple songs, dances, and games! Sunday, November 20 - Pearl Harbor with Jim Gibbons Dynamic speaker Jim Gibbons will review the events of December 7, 1941, the day that Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in Hawaii and ushered the United States formally into World War II. Gibbon's motto is Life is no mystery if you know your history! Meet at 2pm in the Community Room. Friday, November 25 - Teen DIY @ the Library: Bath Bombs & Sugar Scrubs Why spend money shopping this Black Friday when instead you can learn to make free homemade gifts for family and friends? No registration is required for this 1:30-4pm program in the Community Room. All supplies are provided; no registration necessary. Sunday, December 11 - Experience Pearl Harbor Through the Eyes of an 8-year-old Presenter Barbara Segobiano was 8 years old and stationed with her family at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Her father, U.S. Navy Officer Harry Thompson, worked on a submarine in the harbor and was on duty when the Japanese attacked. The family experienced the attack firsthand. A third Gr.r at the time, Barbara will share her experiences of that fateful day in U.S. history at 2pm in the Library’s Community Room.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Volunteers wanted: It just takes one volunteer to help ease a tough road for someone. Are you that volunteer? Faith in Action, a local nonprofit working to help seniors remain independent, is looking for volunteers in several areas. Faith in Action provides transportation assistance, grocery shopping, friendly visiting, and friendly phone calls to seniors in the Bloomington-Normal area. There is no minimum time commitment to volunteer with Faith in Action. We offer flexible, rewarding ways to help seniors in our community stay active, independent, and in their own homes. PATH’s Adult Protective Services Program (APS) is looking to hire for a full-time caseworker; this position is eligible for benefits. Bachelors’ degree required. Reliable transportation also required to travel within a two county radius. Person must possess strong communication skills, knowledge or experience in working with vulnerable populations preferred. This position will also help the rest of the Adult Protective Services caseworkers with the APS after-hours hotline. Limited evening hours could apply. This is a professional position responsible for assessment, case work, and follow-up of reported adult protective services cases. In addition, this position will also be responsible for the intake reports of abuse of adults with disabilities and people aged 60 and older on the after-hours reporting hotline.  Development Therapist (Full Time): Seeking individual to provide developmental therapy, screening, special instruction, linkage, advocacy, and support services to families/children who are developmentally delayed, at-risk for such, and/or diagnosed with a developmental disability, ages birth to 36 months of age. Responsible for designing learning environments and activities that promote children’s development including cognitive processes and social interactions and provide families with information, linkage, referral, and coordination of services within SPICE and the community. Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood, Special Education, or related field as required by DHS; pursing Developmental Credentialing or Temporary Status; a Valid Illinois Drivers’ License with driving record in good standings and current proof of automobile insurance required.

 On-Site Supervisor (OSS): Marcfirst is seeking dynamic individuals for the position of On-Site Residential Supervisor at various locations throughout Bloomington and Normal. Duties include supervising and supporting a staff team who provides individualized support to people with developmental disabilities. This position is full time and benefit eligible. Boys & Girls Club is Hiring the Following Part-Time Positions  Teen Reach Coordinator - This position will work in an after-school and/or summer program to align in- school and out-of-school learning for teens in the community. This position will implement, coordinate, direct, and supervise the Teen REACH Program within the Boys & Girls Club of Bloomington/Normal organization. They will assist with reporting and will interact directly with school personnel.  Teen Reach Case Manager - Our Teen Reach Case Manager will plan, implement, supervise and evaluate programs and activities provided in within a specific program area, such as Education, Recreation, Healthy Life Styles and Fitness, and Technology. They will also provide academic support to enhance youth development for teens in our organization.  Program Specialist - Work in an after-school and/or summer program that aligns in-school and out-of- school learning, provides academic support and enrichment opportunities through high yield learning activities. Program Specialists deliver programming in Academic Success, Good Character & Citizenship and Healthy Lifestyles. Program Specialists are expected to leverage volunteers and other community resources, and engage parents to enhance programming. Program Specialists will maintain the integrity of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington-Normal mission and goals demonstrating the Club culture and values at all times. Children’s Home + Aid Employment Opportunities: 1. Home Visitor – Prevention Initiative (Bloomington) - Our prenatal to three prevention program is expanding, and we are seeking Home Visitors to support pregnant mothers and families with 0-3 year old children by providing weekly in-home services, comprehensive assessment, and strengths-based parent support groups and education. Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree in a social service related field required.  One year of experience.  Expertise in child development and parent-child relationships.  Valid Driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation are required. 2. Permanency Specialist (Bloomington) – The Permanency Specialist provides services and support for families with children under the age of 18 who have the goal of finalizing an adoption or guardianship through DCFS. Qualifications:  Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in social work or related field.  One to three years of experience.  Child Welfare License preferred.  A valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance required. 3. Child Care Worker – part time (Bloomington) - The Crisis Nursery provides emergency care, 24 hours per day/7 days per week, for children whose families are experiencing difficult times. As a Child Care Worker, you will also refer parents to other services that engage, involve, strengthen and support families. Qualifications:  High School Diploma/GED; some college preferred.  1 years experience with children 0-7.  Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation are required. 4. Early Learning Teacher – Full-Time and Part-Time positions available (Bloomington) - Join our team of passionate educators who are committed to making a difference in the lives of the children and families we serve. As an early childhood Teacher, you will assist the Lead Teacher to manage the classroom, conduct age-appropriate activities, provide individualized care to children, assist in assessing the development of children, and communicate with parents. Qualifications:  Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or equivalent required; Bachelor’s preferred.  1-3 years experience working in a program serving children ages 0-5 preferred. 5. Lead Teacher (Bloomington) - As a Lead Teacher, you will develop and implement individualized learning activities that meet the social, emotional, developmental, and intellectual needs of the 0-5 year old children in your Preschool for All classroom. You will assess and document children’s developmental progress, conduct parent/teacher conferences, care for children’s needs, and help maintain NAEYC standards throughout center. Qualifications:  Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or equivalent credits.  Type 04 Certificate. 6. Foster Care Case Manager (Bloomington) - We provide foster care services grounded in the belief that the best place for children to grow up is in a family and the most effective way to ensure children’s safety, permanency and well-being is to provide services that engage, involve, strengthen, and support families. Qualifications:  Bachelor’s Degree in a social service related field.  Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.  Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation are required. 7. Family Visitation Center Outreach Worker – part time (Bloomington) - As the FVC Outreach Worker, you will supervise visits and exchanges between parents with restricted parenting time and their children. This part-time position requires availability to work every other weekend, noon-5pm on Saturdays, and 9:30am-5pm on Sundays. Qualifications:  High School diploma required; some college experience preferred.  Valid Driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation are required. 8. Doula Case Manager (Bloomington) - From the third trimester of pregnancy through labor and postpartum, the Doula Case Manager provides home visits, group services, and referrals to help the mother build the foundation for the child’s health and development, future relationships, and eventual success in school. Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree in a social service related field required; Master’s degree preferred.  Experience with children and families preferred.  Availability to attend agency-paid training.  Valid Driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation are required. Full time positions may include paid time off, as well as medical, dental, vision and life insurance, and a 401(k) Employee savings plan.
