Guidelines for “Let’s Talk About It, Oklahoma: True Grit”
All Oklahoma libraries are invited to apply for a one-time, scholar-led reading and discussion program exploring True Grit by Charles Portis. The key benefit to having a humanities scholar to facilitate the discussion is that he or she has the ability to delve deeply into the humanity within the text. The scholar helps us share our thoughts, ideas, and personal experiences in an effort to learn from one another and gain new perspectives.
Please read the program guidelines carefully. Libraries hosting this program are asked to agree to specific terms. Twenty sites will be selected to host this program, and applications will be approved on a first-come, first-served basis.
OHC will provide: Up to $250 for the cost of the program. Eligible costs include $150 scholar honorarium plus scholar mileage, postage to mail books back, and publicity costs; A list of pre-approved humanities scholars who can be contacted; An OHC logo poster to be displayed at the event; A sign-up sheet for participants to receive a free subscription to Oklahoma Humanities magazine; and Evaluation forms to be distributed to each participant.
Selected host sites agree to: Hold a reading and discussion program on the date indicated within the program application; Acknowledge OHC, ODL, and the Inasmuch Foundation for providing the program in all program publicity; Display the OHC logo poster at the event; Pay the scholar for their presentation at the time of the event. Read the following disclaimer at the event, "Books, services, and other materials for this program are provided through a partnership of the Oklahoma Humanities Council and the Oklahoma Department of Libraries with funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Inasmuch Foundation. Any views, findings, conclusions, or recommendations expressed in this program do not necessarily represent those of the sponsoring entities.” Distribute and collect program evaluation forms from participants; Return the books within one week following the program. Books should be mailed to: OCU, Dulaney-Browne Library, ATTN: LTAIO, 2501 N. Blackwelder, Oklahoma City, OK 73106. Provide a brief summary of your event and return examples of your publicity, Oklahoma Humanities magazine sign-up form, final program expenses, and program evaluation forms through OHC’s online grant system within three weeks of the program date. If the program does not take place, for any reason, the host site will return any monies received from OHC within 30 days.
