Mr President, Fellow Toastmasters, Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen, Good evening and welcome to Sunway TOASTMASTERS Meeting No ….. It is my pleasure to be your genial Toastmaster of the Evening

Before we go on into the actual agenda, I would like to share with you a brief history of Toastmasters International.

History

Toastmasters International is a non profit organisation. Most importantly Toastmasters produces result. Why do I say so? Around the world more than 3 million men and women form all ages have benefited form Toastmasters training and more than 1,000 corporations, universities, government agencies use Toastmasters training.

The first Toastmasters club was founded in the basement of the YMCA in Santa Ana, California in 1924. Toastmasters was the brain child of Dr Ralph C Smedley.

Present

Today there are around 211,000 members worldwide in around 10,500 clubs in more than 90 countries!! In Malaysia alone, we have around 250 clubs. Sunway Toastmasters Club is in Area C3 under Division C. An Area is made up of 4-5 clubs. 4-5 Areas formed a Division and from few Divisions formed a District. Malaysia is in District 51 together with Indonesia and Brunei with the total of 13 Divisions with more than 250 clubs and more than 11,000 members. District 51 has been the no 1 district in the world having achieved the President’s Distinguished District status for 10 consecutive years.

Toastmasters International mission

Is to make effective communication a worldwide reality. Through its members clubs, Toastmasters International helps men and women learn the arts of speaking, listening and thinking which in turn will foster self-confidence and personal growth.

1 Sunway Toastmasters Club mission

The mission of Sunway Toastmasters Club is to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every member has the opportunity to develop communication and leadership skills, which in turn foster self-confidence and personal growth.

How do you grow in Toastmasters Club

How does a Toastmaster Club help nurture you to be a great communicator? When you first join Toastmasters, you will receive a variety of manuals and resources on speaking. The first two manuals you will receive are called the Communication and Leadership Program & Competent Leader Manual. You can do both assignments concurrently. After you complete all 10 speech projects in C&L manual, you may apply for your Competent Communicator (CC) award or complete the CL assignments and apply for Competent Leader Award. After completing CC, member can then choose from any combination of 15 advanced manuals. The Advanced manual ranged from ‘The Entertaining Speaker’ to ‘The Professional Speaker’, ‘Special Occasion Speeches ‘, ‘Storytelling’ and many more.

Additional educational materials include the Success/Leadership and Success/Communication Series, The Better Speaker Series, and the High Performance Leadership Program.

Toastmasters International’s education system includes both a communication track and a leadership track. The communication track award progression features the CC, Advanced Communicator Bronze (ACB), Advanced Communicator Silver (ACS), and Advanced Communicator Gold (ACG); the leadership track award progression includes Competent Leader (CL), Advanced Leader Bronze (ALB) & Advance Leader Silver (ALS). When you achieved both the Communication Track & Leadership Track, you will given the highest title Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM).

In addition, you will also receive the award winning ‘The Toastmasters’, a monthly magazine that offers the latest insights on speaking and leadership skills.

Agenda of the Day

2 Now, Fellow Toastmasters, Ladies & Gentlemen we shall move on to our agenda for this evening.

(Star by getting the role players to explain their roles accordingly, always start from Language Evaluator first and GE last)

Immediately after my introduction we shall have an invocation session follow by the table topic session. Members who are not playing any role this evening is strong urged not to miss this opportunity. Volunteer yourself before you are volunteered. Thereafter we shall have the Humour master to tickle our funny bone. Show your support and laugh as loud as you like. Then only we arrived at the Project Speeches Session.

And today, ladies and gentlemen, we have 4 speech assignments ranging from speech no ….. right up to …... Then you will have the feedback sessions which we call the evaluation. Evaluations are breakfast for champions and today’s evaluators will give an honest, encouraging and constructive feedback to speakers. They will point the speaker towards methods of improvement and strive to have the speaker look forward to his/her next speech.

[prior to meeting ask the speaker how she /him wants to be introduced. The purpose of the introduction is to highlight the speaker. This is accomplished by explaining who the speaker is , why he .she is addressing the selected subject. Identify the manual project the speaker is presenting. Your introduction establishes this important relationship between the speaker and the audience.]

We have heard 4 great and fantastic speeches from our excellent speakers. They have raised their standards in speaking again this evening by completing a speech project. Let us all give them a thunderous applause for they courage and spirit to excel.
