Many Times in Our Lives We Can Ask Children Who They Admire Or Who They Would Like to Be Like

Person of Faith

Many times in our lives we can ask children who they admire or who they would like to emulate. Often the response is a favorite sports figure or someone who has amassed great wealth. Not that these are poor choices, yet I would love to give the children an opportunity to look deeper into the characteristics that are admirable.

I am asking the children to research a Person of Faith. This is to be a person they do not have first hand knowledge of. This person could be a saint or just a person who has shown great faith throughout their life.

The research categories should include : 1. Background history: year born, age, where they lived, and lifestyle perhaps before their faith experience. (could be several paragraphs) 2. Faith Experience: Write about the person’s defining moment that made them realize they wanted to follow God. (could be several paragraphs) 3. Vocational Work: Write about the activities the person did throughout their life to express their love for God. Write what the person did to help other people (could be several paragraphs) 4. Reason you Chose this Person: (at least one paragraph) 5. What did you learn from this Person: After you have done all your research on your faith-filled person this is the last paragraph. Write how you can take what you have learned about this person: their values, their service, their faith and incorporate (use) in your own life. 6. Add a Quote: Place the quote on the cover of the report and then explain what this quote means to you in the body of the report. (at least one paragraph) 7. Pictures-drawn or photos -type the title on the page 8. Bibliography- Minimum of 3 sources. Title should be typed on page.

Note cards: * Each of the category titles should be written on a note card. * Any information you gather should be written in your own words on the note cards. For each new paragraph use a new note card. * It is quite possible you could have around 20-30 cards by the end of this report. * Once you have gathered your information type or write this in report form. * The report should include each of the 8 categories above, yet any extra information you gather is always welcome. Report Format: 1. The report will be written in paragraph form. Indent each paragraph. 2. Each paragraph should contain a topic sentence with four supporting sentences. The fonts students are able to use are: Times New Roman or Comic Sans MS. 3. The type size can be either 12 or 14 double spaced. 4. Do not skip lines between paragraphs. 5. There are not to be subheadings throughout the report. The topic sentence will state what the paragraph is about.

Report Cover: All information should be center of page  Person of Faith name (should be the largest print on this page)  Quote  Picture of Person of Faith  Student name  Due Date  Student choice to use any font or print size.

Bibliography:

Bibliography

 The Bibliography page is double spaced.  List sources alphabetically by author or by first word if no author is listed.  Most entries include the author, title, and publication information  Each part of the entry is separated by a period and followed by two spaces.  Book titles are underlined and article titles are “Quoted”.  The first line of the entry is at the left margin and all the other lines are indented. (Reverse Indent)

Oral presentations: Oral presentations will be given on these people of faith. The oral presentation will consist of students sharing their person of faith. Each student will want to dress up as their Person of Faith as they give their presentation.

It is our goal that through these oral presentations students will then obtain a ‘piggy bank’ of spiritual heroes that they may become familiar with and therefore able to emulate. (The following is an example of Front Cover of the Report)
