A. Air Obstruction Light (AOB)
Mounted on to a factory welded ¾ inch N.P.T. internally threaded hub on top of a davit mast arm light pole for new construction.
1. Provide and install air obstruction lights as specified herein and in the Plan. The work consists of furnishing and installing the following:
(1.1) ¾ inch RSC nipple threaded on both ends, approximately 3 inches in length
(1.2) Two ¾ inch steel locknuts, one on each end of the threaded nipple
(1.3) Light Pole with factory welded ¾ inch internal threaded hub
(1.4) MnDOT Approved Air Obstruction Light
MnDOT approved Air Obstruction Lights are listed on the MnDOT Approved/Qualified Products Lists WEB site for Lighting:

2. Provide 3 conductor 14 AWG (3/c #14) Signal Control Cable in accordance with 3815.2C.3
3. All work and materials necessary to integrate the components into a complete air obstruction light in accordance with the detail in the Plan.
B. Air Obstruction Light (AOB)
Mounted on an air obstruction light bolt on ¾ inch N.P.T. hub on an existing light pole.
1. Provide and install air obstruction lights as specified herein and in the Plan. The work consists of furnishing and installing the following: (1.1) ¾ inch RSC nipple threaded on both ends, approximately 3 inches in length
(1.2) Two ¾ inch steel locknuts, one on each end of the threaded nipple

A. Air Obstruction Light Bolt On Type ¾ Inch Hub Installation For An Air Obstruction Light On Existing Light Pole. Following the manufacturer’s installation instructions, mount the MnDOT approved air obstruction light ¾ inch hub on top of a stainless steel, aluminum, or steel decorative light pole mast arm 1ft. to 3 ft. from the end of the mast arm tenon. On a stainless steel or decorative steel light pole mount the hub on a flat side on top of the mast arm.
Include the following if the District intends to use new light poles on the project. Fill in the blank after Type below.

B. Lighting Unit, Unit Type ___, With A Factory Welded 3/4 Inch Internal Threaded Hub For An Air Obstruction Light.
The Contractor shall furnish and install a Lighting Unit, Type __ in accordance with the applicable provisions of Mn/DOT 2545.2R and a factory welded ¾ inch N.P.T. internal threaded hub placed on top of the davit arm by the light pole manufacturer for an approved LED air obstruction light. The light pole shall be designed in accordance with the details of the plan.
C. Air Obstruction Light Wiring.
Terminate in accordance with 2545.3G3 and as follows:
1. Install a 3 position insulated wire splice connector block on the load side of the of the breakaway fuse holder conductor in the base of the pole.
(1.1) Connect the load side conductor from the fuse holder to one position of the wire splice connector block.
a. The load side conductor electrical pigtail shall be 6 inches ± 2 inches in length. (1.2) Connect the black insulated conductor for the luminaire to 2nd position of the wire splice connector block.
(1.3) Connect the black insulated 14 AWG stranded conductor from the signal control cable for the air obstruction light to the third position of the wire splice connector block.
2. Terminate the neutral and ground conductors in accordance with 2545.3G.4.
3. Label the 3 conductor 14 AWG (3/c #14) signal control cable in the light pole base “AIR OBSTRUCTION LIGHT”. Provide labels according to 2545.3G.6.
