The Encephalitis Society Job Description

JobTitle: Fundraising Coordinator

Responsible to: The Operations Manager

Salary, Training and Progression: Salary linked to NJC Scale 5, point 22 - £19,621 pro rata 6% pension contribution

Location: The Encephalitis Resource Centre, 32 Castlegate, Malton YO17 7DT Some working away may be required with this post.

Hours of work 30 hrs

Job Purpose

To be responsible for the coordination and management of all the Society’s fundraising activities (with the exclusion of Grant Funding) building successful relationships with supporters. Formulating and auctioning a fundraising strategy that will increase the Society’s income year on year.

Job Description

General:

Develop a fundraising policy and procedure (comprising all steps from the first contact of the potential fundraiser) and procedures for different streams of funding (e.g tribute gifts, legacy giving etc)

Review and maximise our fundraising information

Maximise the recording of the fundraising events (computer, hardcopy, board); develop a database of all fundraisers (active and retroactive), and manage and keep up-to-date our donor contacts and preference information

Improve communication with fundraisers before and after events (annul mailing shot, update regarding new events), keeping in touch on anniversaries and birthdays etc.

Review and be responsible for our fundraising merchandise

Raise awareness of the charity and its work, at both the local and national level - this may involve giving talks to groups or schools for example, or dealing with the media

Working with all forms of media, producing and improving supporting materials such as posters, web pages, newsletter pages etc in order to promote, market and advertise forthcoming events, as well as recognise and thank fundraisers and donors

Maximise and coordinate Society use of collection boxes Recommend to the Senior Management Team membership of relevant fundraising standard organisations and other bodies, or quality marks in fundraising

Write and send applications and mail-shots, to reach a wide range of potential and current donors

Recruiting, and manage volunteers to fulfil various fundraising functions

Make risk analyses and balance time-cost ratios to focus Society efforts upon the most appropriate fundraising activities with the highest chance of success.

Maximise gift aid on fundraising and donations

Society Members/Supporters Maintain and develop relationships with existing supporters, motivating and facilitating them to maximise the funds they raise

Promote our fundraising activities and new ideas to our members and their networks

Develop Society annual and team challenge events

Engage with and inspire new supporters to raise money

Develop new and imaginative fundraising activities

Organise traditional activities, such as house-to-house collections of donated goods and money

Explore new ways of supporting the fundraisers (the Society taking part at some events, presenting certificates)

Legacies and In Memoriam To review and expand our fundraising activities in relation to Legacies and In Memoriam Giving

Social Media, Online media and Web-based giving Explore, coordinate and maximise the Society’s funds raised via social media, web-based fundraising, online auctions and merchandise sales, etc

Explore and promote new ways of giving (text, virtual gifts) and income streams currently not maximised by the Society such as Ebay, Amazon (clear analysis of their potential is needed first)

Grants With the senior management team, increasing funds by researching and targeting charitable trusts whose criteria match the charity's aims and activities

Corporate Supporters Develop and implement a strategy for individual and corporate supporter recruitment and development

Oversee corporate fundraising, including employee giving, matched giving from employers, payroll giving

Local Community Develop our local business and corporate connections, maximising their giving

Health and Safety:

To ensure Risk Assessments are conducted for all Society fundraising events, that appropriate insurances are in place in connection with our fundraising business and that the Society is compliant with all insurance policy pre-requisites

Other Duties 1. Work with other staff on any other Society projects, events or other work that may be reasonably requested 2. Carry out any other duties associated with the responsibilities of this post 3. Ensure professional development through appropriate training 4. Network with other organisations to further our wider objectives 5. Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and others who may be affected by your work. 6. Person Specification Skills: Experience of fundraising in a previous role is essential, so relevant work experience is important, particularly in a related industry. Candidates will also need to demonstrate excellent team- working and customer-service skills. Membership of the Institute of Fundraising is desirable.
