Dear parishioners of St. Mary Magdalen,

My name is Luke Simpson and I am thrilled to be starting as your new parish Music Director! I am excited to be joining this diverse community as I have worked as an organist in several other parishes. I have always enjoyed learning the traditions and hymnology of many different Catholic parish cultures as they are all tied together in the universality of the Church through praise of our Lord. I am looking forward to joining you at St. Mary Magdalen to learn your traditions and help enrich our liturgies through the gift of music.

A little about myself- I grew up in Allenton, Michigan as the second of six musical children. I graduated from Oakland University last year with a bachelor’s degree in communications. During my college years I was a member of the Oakland Chorale and also studied voice. I began playing the piano at the age of 6 and learned organ starting at age 16, skills which carried me through high school and college as I played the organ on weekends at various parishes in the Archdiocese of Detroit. I am engaged to be married this August and am excited to be moving to this side of the state!

I am glad to have Fr. Godfrey as my pastor. I look forward to highlighting his love for the Holy Eucharist through music of adoration and praise. I am also excited to be working alongside a warm and dedicated staff who have been very welcoming to me.

My goal for the parish is to bring us closer to Christ through the use of sacred music. I want the music to assist us in reflecting on the Word and the message it sends. I will strive to serve God, St. Mary Magdalen’s parish and you to the best of my capabilities.

Tuus in Christo, Luke Simpson
