Graiguenamanagh Angling Club In the 1970’s and 1980’s Angling was an essential part of tourism in Graiguenamanagh providing valuable business especially to the local B & B’s and shops. By the 1990’s saw the beginning of a decline in visiting overseas anglers, initially a decline in course anglers but more recently a decline in other forms of angling. The decline was driven by a combination of factors (foot and mouth, decline of fish stock (trout and bream) reduced water quality, drift netting and negative publicity. The Angling committee with the help of the Angling Council of Ireland this year hope to put Graiguenamanagh back on the map as one of the top angling destinations in the South East. So far this year 3 angling clubs have come to Graiguenamanagh to hold their course fishing competitions and the feedback from all clubs has been tremendous. This Sunday March 29th sees the return of Portobello Angling to hold one of their winter league matches. On Sunday 31st of May Graiguenamanagh will host a major competition as part of Oaklands Barrow Dunbrody Festival. Up to 60 Anglers from all over Europe will take part in the one day competition, fishing time 10.00 – 3. 00. Anyone interested in more information about our club and competitions contact our Facebook page. Club membership €25 adult, €5 junior and €10 o.a.p Concert at Ionad Dara, Goresbridge. 5 Graiguenamanagh Youth Café Volunteers wanted

There is a new and exciting development in Graiguenamanagh with the development of a dedicated youth space (Youth Café) in the Abbey Hall. The new space is being developed in Partnership by Ossory Youth and the Abbey Hall Committee. This new space will add to the already excellent hall facility by providing a specific safe and fun environment for young people to hang out and socialise. This has to the potential to be a very positive place where young people can develop and learn as well as having fun but to reach this potential we require the help of people in the community to volunteer to help to run and organise the Youth Café. The success and development of this facility is dependent on volunteers from the Graiguenamanagh area with motivation and drive to see the youth space reach its full potential.

Interested in helping the young people in your community? Well it’s very simple, all you have to be is over 18 years of age and able to volunteer a couple of hours each week (or as much time as you are able)

What is required of a volunteer?  A couple of hours a week (or as much time as you can give)  A commitment to undergo training provided by Ossory Youth

How does volunteering benefit you?  Getting involved in your local community and getting to know people  Sense of fun and fulfilment working with young people in the area  Training is provided and support provided by qualified members of staff  Its good experience and looks good on your CV

How do I get involved?  If you are interested in becoming involved or just interested in finding out more information we are having an information night about the Youth Café in the Abbey Hall, Graiguenamanagh on Wednesday 1 st of April at 7.30pm.  Call or text Kevin in Ossory Youth anytime on (087) 9152915
