JOB SPECIFICATION

1. PREAMBLE

2. SUMMARY OF THE BROAD PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The incumbent contributes to the provision of medical imaging services using specialised equipment to perform a high level specialist diagnostic radiographic service for clients/patients across a range of specialities of medicine working in the General, ED, CT, MRI or Ultrasound units dependant on skill set. Working under limited professional direction perform more complex medical imaging diagnostic services using specialised equipment requiring selection and application of new techniques and methodologies within the speciality unit. Undertake a range of research projects/programs in conjunction with other senior staff in a complex specialised environment, to contribute to the development of new scanning techniques / protocols to improve patient care.

3. REPORTING/WORKING RELATIONSHIPS (to whom the person reports, staff for whom the person is responsible, and other significant connections and working relationships within the organisation)

Accountable to the Divisional Manager. Responsible on a day-to-day basis to the Chief Radiographer through the Radiographer in Charge of the rostered unit. Regular liaison with Senior Radiographers and other unit staff, particularly Shift Supervisors, Medical, Nursing and Clerical staff. 4. SPECIAL CONDITIONS (such as non-metropolitan location, travel requirements, frequent overtime, etc)

 May be required to work within other locations of the Adelaide Health Service.  Will be required to be available to be rostered between the hours 0700-2300 over 7 days.  Will be required to be available for rostered overtime as required.  The incumbent is required to be available to work in other sections of the Medical Imaging Division as per roster.  May be required to undertake a health assessment prior to commencement.  Appointment will be subject to a satisfactory Offender History Check.

5. STATEMENT OF KEY OUTCOMES AND ASSOCIATED ACTIVITIES (group in to major areas of responsibility / activity and list in descending order of importance).

5.1 Maintain an effective clinical service by:  completing complex examinations, across the full range of imaging procedures (in your speciality) including interventional procedures, using professional judgement to modify protocols where necessary to best meet required outcomes and accepting professional responsibility for the examination.  communicating any unusual findings of the examination to Radiologist or Clinician, which may facilitate an immediate review of the patient’s clinical status.  consulting with the patient or patient’s guardian to document patient history regarding location and incidence of patients’ presenting symptoms or to determine the mechanics of an injury applying professional knowledge and professional judgement to select and adapt imaging techniques best suited for the clinical situation.  completing procedure worksheet, which is used by the Radiologist to form the basis of a report.  working as a specialist Radiographer/Sonographer across the full range of imaging procedures using significant initiative to analyse situations and adapt methods best suited for procedure.  providing professional leadership to, and support for, all less experience Radiographers/Sonographers in the unit.  ensuring safety protocols and guidelines are documented and that all visitors to Unit have been orientated, understand and adhere to these safety protocols.  undertaking a range of research projects/programs in conjunction with other senior staff in a complex specialised environment, to contribute to the development of new scanning techniques / protocols to improve patient care.  assisting with coordination of daily work flow by directing AHP3, AHP2 and AHP1 Radiographers/Sonographers and ensuring appropriate human and consumable resources match workload requirements by regularly participating in the roster for coordinating Radiographer/Sonographer.  assisting in the development of procedural standards documentation in conjunction with Senior Specialist Practitioner Radiographers/Sonographers, by involvement with the implementation of a comprehensive training program in area of skills.

5.2 Maintain appropriate clinical practice by:  assisting in the development and documentation of the unit’s procedural standards.  implementing a comprehensive training program in areas of skills in conjunction with the Senior Specialist Radiographer/Sonographer.  conducting image quality audits utilising the PACS training file.  liaising with radiologists, other medical staff, wards and consulting clinics staff on procedural schedules and relevant procedural information.  maintaining own specialist skill levels through further relevant post graduate studies or by attendance at seminars, conferences and/or by presentation of papers at state and/or national conferences. 5.3 Assist in the establishment of a safe and healthy work environment, free from discrimination is provided for employees by:  contributing to the well-being of people in South Australia through participation in Counter Disaster activities including attendance, as required, at training programs and exercises to develop the necessary skills required to participate in responses in the event of a disaster and/or major incident.  contributing to the promotion and implementation of the General Public Sector Management Aims, Personnel Management Standards and employee conduct standards and in particular Equal Opportunity and Occupational Health Safety and Welfare by adhering to the provisions of relevant legislative requirements.

1. ESSENTIAL MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (those characteristics considered absolutely necessary)

Educational/Vocational Qualifications

Degree in Medical Radiations and a Statement of Accreditation in Diagnostic Radiography from the Australian Institute of Radiography, or its recognized equivalent.

Experience

 Demonstrated experience as an Accredited Radiographer. o Competence in advanced specialized categories of examinations:  Demonstrated experience in co-ordination of a speciality training program.  Demonstrated experience in the principles and practice of safety and quality in health care.  Demonstrated experience in clinical project management.

Knowledge

 Demonstrated skill and effectiveness in leading team approaches to system development and quality management activities.  Knowledge of Regulations pertaining to the Radiation Protection and Control Act, 1982.  Experience in managing change.  Sound knowledge of Occupational Health, Safety & Welfare principles and procedures.  Sound knowledge of Quality Management principles and procedures. 2. Experience

- Experience as a senior radiographer with advanced skills

- able to perform complex examinations without direct supervision. - able to recognise complex or unusual pathology, anatomical variants and artefacts. - an understanding of complex or unusual clinical presentations and the role of your speciality in assisting in clinical management. - able to apply complex techniques to acquire the required information. - able to prioritise workflow to minimise delays with critical procedures and other patients.

- Experience working in a multi-discipline imaging department.

Knowledge

- Knowledge of Digital technology and required workflows.

Educational/Vocational Qualifications (considered useful in carrying out the responsibilities of the position)

- Holds a post graduate qualification in Radiography (management/advanced practices).
