Accomplished Teaching National Board Certification I 3 Credit Graduate Course- PDED 575 Southern New Hampshire University Cost: $1750

Vermont-NEA is partnering with Southern New Hampshire University to provide the class Accomplished Teaching- National Board Certification I.

When: Classes 4-7 pm 10/21, 11/18, 12/16, 1/20, 2/10, & 3/17. Online sessions 10/27/14 and 11/20/14 from 7-9 pm, plus three additional online sessions scheduled by small candidate groups pursuing same certification

Who: Teachers wanting to pursue National Board Certification

Cost: $1750 includes credits, Component Fees, Candidate Support and book

Course Description: This course supports teachers through two components of National Board Certification. Candidates will learn and apply the Five Core Propositions, National Board Standards for Teaching and the three types of writing expected as part of Board Certification. Additionally, participants will review best practices within content areas, differentiation techniques, curriculum design, assessment, as well as review key content expected of their teaching certification. Technology skills will be developed through the use of Google Hangout for our virtual classes.

Objectives:  Define, identify, and practice the three types of writing: descriptive, analytical, and reflective.  Review, critique, and provide constructive feedback to others  Research best practices related to teaching content  Review key content for the certification areas  Discuss and apply “assessment for learning” in the classroom  Read and discuss Integrating Differentiated Instruction and Understanding by Design by Carol Ann Tomlinson and Jay McTighe  Understand and apply the Five Core Propositions to teaching and learning  Gather and analyze information about students’ strengths and needs and use that information to design and implement instruction to advance student learning and achievement.  Analyze and reflect on teaching practices utilizing video from classroom practice.  Complete components 1 & 2 as outlined by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.  Learn and use Google Hangout to meet virtually

The cost of the class will cover credits, component fees, candidate support, and textbook. Classes will take place at Edmunds Middle School on 10/21, 11/18, 12/16, 1/20, 2/10, & 3/17.
