Major changes to HL7 V3 Templates DRAFT Specification, ver. 0.01, August 2, 2002 Liora Alschuler, [email protected]

General changes: . took open issues that relate to specific section of document and comments on that section and inserted them into the narrative stream under "OPEN ISSUES". Sections with open issues indicated with color in Table of Contents and in line. . in some cases, inserted change tracking where unsure whether edit reflected original intent . put Requirements back in; requirements for registry collected in separate draft. . Did a straw-man division of assertions into in-scope/out-of-scope (without deleting any from draft) . "Key Aspects" section: With the exception of 1.4.2, all this (and more) is now covered more explicitly in the Requirements section, but I left it here as a sort of pre-emptive FAQ. . where comments were just.... comments, without identifying an open issue or taking issue with the spec, I deleted them. . apologies in advance if I failed to maintain complete and correct attribution for comments and questions. . read carefully the document containing deletions. These are things I felt certain were redundant or out of scope with this document, but may have value in another context or simply may be someone's favorite piece of prose and they can make a case to put it back in. . Added change log to front of document . Created version number for drafts . Changed name of document to reflect status as DRAFT Specification

In addition:

. made copy edits throughout, NOT noted . added contributors C. Mead, K. Rubin . added section on intent of document . section 1.2: added comment; changed order of paragraphs; added explicit reference to V3 family. . deleted some comments that were already addressed . added placeholder for definition of CMET and clone, other V3 terms . template philosophy materila deleted: should become a general overview white paper (I think Peter volunteered to work on this) . objectives: methodology moved to Scope; registry moved to registry requirements . Under requirements, sections on registry moved to registry requirements document; section on authoring moved to authoring requirements document . Took Templates Requirements doc of July 17 (Bob Dolin), incorporated all revision-marked changes, re-incorporated into this document. . deleted technology independence from requirements because it is covered in template definition AND under an open issue from Thomas Beale . added Template nesting as an assertion (was under validation) . did a wholesale move of Template registry methodology and registry requirements. Once these are better understood, we may wish to reflect them in some general way in the Templates spec itself. . did NOT change Methodology except heading level and numbering; left Ken’s edits with change tracking
