His teaching is unconventional As a Stanton L. Young Master Teacher (1989) Duffy’s style is organic. Using a self-organizing approach, he assembles interdisciplinary groups with individual differences and uses dialogue, especially with those whose voices are generally silent, to stir us into action.

He understands social responsibility “My work has come full-circle. As a result, I have opened my eyes, heart and mind to injustice, need, hope, and resilience.”

Dr. Dan Duffy is Community Medicine He is leading the development of a four-year medical school program that will integrate clinical medicine with the principles and practices of trans-disciplinary health and care for communities. Dan Duffy has transformed the way we look at our community and its healthcare system. Duffy received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburg and medical degree from Temple University Medical School. He completed residency training in internal medicine and fellowship training in pulmonary disease at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Though his board certification in internal medicine is time- unlimited, Dr. Duffy voluntarily renewed his certificate in 2006.

Prior to his appointment in Tulsa, Dr. Duffy was the executive vice president for the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) where he introduced the practice of quality improvement into the maintenance of certification programs for practicing physicians in the ABIM Practice Improvement Modules. While at the ABIM, he also held an adjunct professorship at the University of Pennsylvania in internal medicine where he taught principles of medical education.
