Investigating a Career Course Curriculum at a College

Chem1-2 CHEMISTRY CAREER PROJECT

INVESTIGATING A CAREER COURSE CURRICULUM AT A COLLEGE

It is now time to start thinking about which colleges you would like to apply to next year and possibly which major you are interested in studying. You will need to decide what major you may like to study in college and investigate the courses you will need to be taking in this major. Since this is a science class, you may want to investigate one science major or any other major you are thinking may be in your future. This is your future, so make this project mean something to you. You may choose to investigate a state or private institution of higher learning.

INFORMATION TO COLLECT:

1. Career choice major and at least 3 jobs it prepares you to do upon graduation. 2. Identify the college or university you would like to attend and type of college or university (state or private). How many students attend that school? Within the state, is this a large amount, normal amount, or small amount of students? 3. Identify & describe the location of the college or university (city, state, area). 4. List the requirements for admission (High School Courses, GPA, SAT, ACT). Is there a placement test that needs to be taken? 5. Total credits needed for graduation (undergraduate-bachelor’s degree). 6. Calculate the cost for each year and then total cost for a four year education. (include: tuition, room & board, meal plans, and transportation (if commuting)) 7. Identify special interests that the school offers (minor in dance, sports, clubs, community events). 8. Identify multicultural events or classes that can be taken. 9. Identify the sequence of courses required for graduation (1st year, 2ndyear, etc.). This will be very hard and time consuming. Much of this information can be found online. Go to the website for your desired school and research “Curriculum for _(chosen major)_”.

REPORT:

1. All data collected needs to be put into a neatly, organized data table. 2. Provide additional information relevant to specific major and college. 3. We will be using the next two weeks of lab periods for you to work on this project.

HANDOUT/ADVERTISEMENT:

1. Data collected needs to be put into a handout, poster, or slide illustrating your college. 2. Provide additional information relevant to specific major and college. Chem1-2 CHEMISTRY 3. We will be using the next two weeks of lab periods for you to work on this project.

DUE DATE: FRIDAY, MARCH 31, 2017.

WORTH: 100 POINTS TOWARDS MARKING PERIOD 3 GRADE (TEST GRADE).
