Job Purpose

To take ownership and lead the delivery and ongoing maintenance of technology environments that meets and/or exceeds requirements as part of an exciting and critical programme of work.

The outcome of this programme will be a refresh of the core Policy Administration & Billing systems and creation of a Data Warehouse.

The purpose of this role is to provide expertise in the deployment and integration of Admiral’s Java Application Middleware estate, specifically Red Hat JBoss EAP. Post-implementation, the purpose of the role is to support, optimise and improve this estate as part of the IT Support Department.

Main Duties

The main duty of this role is to work with IT delivery and support teams to ensure new products and technologies are integrated/configured/optimised in line with IT architectural principles, policies and best practice relating to new and existing environments within the Admiral Technology estate. You will be working with all roles within IT to ensure this occurs in a controlled and timely manner.

In addition to this you will also proactively manage and address any risk issues relating to your assigned duties. You will be expected to complete your duties whilst conforming to any project timelines or service level agreements that are in place.

Other duties include:

 Configure and maintain enterprise technology environments.  Recommending & enforcing standards for best practise.  Provide timely and accurate estimates for assigned tasks.  Research new technologies and function as a subject matter expert.  Diligently share knowledge with others through teaching and/or mentoring.  Act as a point of technical referral or provide 4th Line Technical Support, where appropriate.  Maintain a good working relationship with customers and technical partners including Project teams.  Produce or contribute to detailed documentation for existing or new configurations.  Provide project briefings for Management.

Experience and Qualifications Required

Essential:  Professional experience in large environments on: o Red Hat JBoss 6.0.1 EAP and above, including HA options o Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 o Shell Scripting  Operate as a lead for operational maintenance e.g. patching and failovers.  Able to work with structured frameworks, methodologies and best practices.  An ability to learn from, and adapt to, a changing technical environment.  Strong interpersonal and communication skills.  Ability to work independently and in a team (co-located or dispersed).  Excellent organisational skills.

Desirable:  TCP/IP Network troubleshooting and support, including DNS & HTTP protocols.  Apache Web Server, including concepts such as load balancing and failover.  Experience on Jenkins, Nexus and Maven.  Performance Tuning, including JVM tuning.  Experience of working in Agile and Waterfall projects.  Familiarity with working in a Support Environment.  Experience of working in the Financial or Insurance sectors.
