2.3 Need for the project and its importance to the country and or region The major need of building stone is due to high compressive strength and durability (among the hardest, dimensional & structural stones) it can effectively withstand the vagaries of nature. Fine-grained granite is employed for ornamental and monumental. Works as well as for inscription purposes. The mineral –rich colours, and the hardness & density, makes its useful for many applications.

The proposed mining project will fulfill its end uses in buildings and constructions, bridges, paving, monuments and many other exterior projects. Polished slabs and titles are used in countertops, flooring, retaining walls and landscaping around a centre are used in countertops, flooring, retaining walls and landscaping around a centre fountain / pond, staircase and many other design elements (residential and commercial applications). It is also known as the maintenance – free stone.

The mining and associated activities in the mineral bearing areas bring about gains in gross domestic product, ie. There is though a minor contribution by the proposed project but will add to the gains in G.D.P (Gross Domestic Product).

A total of 16 people will be employed in the mine. It will create employment (though marginally) for local population.

Applicant will pay royalty for the mineral produced from the mine, direct and indirect taxes will be paid thereby contributing to the regional revenue. The public revenue will further be put for infrastructure development and other sectors like health, education and social welfare.

2.4 Demand – Supply Gap Since it is main raw material in construction project. It is always in demand. So the proposed mining project will fulfill its end users in local market, as it is always in good demand in construction projects.

6.4 Environment Management Plan

6.4.1 Water Pollution Management

Domestic effluent sent to septic tanks followed by soak pit. The mining project requires continuous supply of water for various purposes during mining, plantation etc. apart from drinking water supply. The main source for water pollution in open cast mining is the surface runoff due to rainfall. There will not be any mine discharge during dry weather season. There may be accumulation of rain water during monsoon season, which contains fine salt. This will be treated in settling pits created during excavation. This de-silted water will be used for plantation and dust suppression.

6.4.2 Air Pollution

Periodically air samples will be collected and tested in the laboratory. Air or dust expected to be generated from drilling process, hauling roads, places of excavation etc.., will be Suppressed by periodical wetting of land by water spraying.
