1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A HOUSE RESOLUTION 10 11 TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE HONORABLE 12 HARRY B. “CHIP” LIMEHOUSE III OF CHARLESTON 13 COUNTY FOR HIS DEDICATED SERVICE IN THE HOUSE 14 OF REPRESENTATIVES ON BEHALF OF HIS 15 CONSTITUENTS IN DISTRICT 110 AND THE CITIZENS OF 16 SOUTH CAROLINA, AND TO WISH HIM MUCH SUCCESS 17 AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS. 18 19 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of 20 Representatives learned with sincere regret that Chip Limehouse 21 will depart from the House of Representatives at the conclusion of 22 his current term; and 23 24 Whereas, born in Charleston on August 8, 1962, he is the son of 25 Harry B. “Buck” Limehouse, Jr., and Frances Fennell Limehouse; 26 and 27 28 Whereas, a loyal Gamecock, Chip attended the University of South 29 Carolina, where he received a bachelor’s degree in political 30 science in 1985. He later returned to Charleston to join the family 31 business, Limehouse Properties, where he continues to serves as a 32 real estate broker and executive; and 33 34 Whereas, inspired by his father’s commitment to public service, 35 Chip became interested in politics at an early age. In 1984, he 36 became a volunteer coordinator for the historically successful 37 reelection campaign of President Ronald Reagan and Vice 38 President George Bush. He later served as a legislative aide to 39 United States Senator Strom Thurmond, as a member of the Public 40 Safety Coordinating Council, the Hunley Commission, and the 41 Charleston County Aviation Authority; and 42
[5356] 1 1 Whereas, a member of the Association of Realtors, Chip 2 Limehouse has served his profession on the legislative committee 3 of the Charleston Trident Association of Realtors since 1994; and 4 5 Whereas, when away from his public service and business 6 commitments, Chip enjoys spending time with his beloved son, 7 Chase Alexander Limehouse, and daughter, Eliza Devereaux 8 Limehouse. A sportsman with a great love of horses and polo, he is 9 deeply involved in his community as a member of St. Michael’s 10 Episcopal Church and the Hibernian Society, and as a life member 11 of the East Cooper Republican Men’s Club; and 12 13 Whereas, Representative Limehouse has faithfully served the 14 citizens of District 110 in Charleston County in the House of 15 Representatives since 1995, during which time he has served on 16 the Ways and Means Committee as its first vice chair and as the 17 chair of both its Transportation, Regulatory and Cultural 18 Subcommittee and its Higher Education Subcommittee, and as 19 such, has made a lasting impact on higher education in the State. 20 As the sponsor of legislation that created the South Carolina 21 Transportation Infrastructure Bank, on which he presently serves, 22 Chip Limehouse also leaves a mark on the development of the 23 highway system in South Carolina; and 24 25 Whereas, a friend of taxpayers during his long tenure, he served on 26 the Joint Bond Review Committee Special Property Tax Ad Hoc 27 Subcommittee and on the Transportation Ad Hoc Committee; and 28 29 Whereas, Representative Limehouse worked tirelessly to promote 30 and pass legislation to protect the state’s most vulnerable citizens: 31 children, the elderly, and victims of crime. He was instrumental in 32 the passage of South Carolina’s Amber Alert highway notification 33 system and the Violent Sexual Predator Act and has promoted anti- 34 bullying legislation; and 35 36 Whereas, recognized widely for his public service, Limehouse was 37 honored as the Legislator of the Year in 1995 by the National Solid 38 Waste Management Association, and has received honorary 39 doctorates from the College of Charleston, the Medical University 40 of South Carolina, and The Citadel; and 41 42 Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives will miss 43 the impassioned service that Chip Limehouse, their cherished
[5356] 2 1 friend and respected colleague, has given to the House of 2 Representatives, and hope that he will enjoy deep fulfillment in the 3 years to come. Now, therefore, 4 5 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 6 7 That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, 8 by this resolution, recognize and commend the Honorable Harry B. 9 “Chip” Limehouse III of Charleston County for his dedicated 10 service in the House of Representatives on behalf of his 11 constituents in District 110 and the citizens of South Carolina, and 12 wish him much success and happiness in all his future endeavors. 13 14 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to 15 the Honorable Harry B. “Chip” Limehouse III. 16 XX 17
