Market Trends Committee Meeting Notes Submitted by: Brian Berg – Committee Chairman
The Market Trends committee met and discussed two key areas regarding market data that would be beneficial to all EGSA members.
There were (10) participants in this meeting on March 16, 2009. Three were new to the Market Trends committee.
The first item discussed centered around a general market survey of the power generation business respective to EGSA members and the business segments they serve within the power generation industry. This survey is currently in draft form but will be edited and refined by the committee within the next 60-days. Then, the survey will be submitted to EGSA staff and the board to to implement the survey to EGSA members, online. Survey results would then be available and shared at the next EGSA meeting in September.
The other item discussed was the EGSA Generator Shipment Survey results and the fact that the data is not complete because not all industry participants are included in the EGSA survey. With that, one of our regular participants in the Market Trends Committee who works in the “Market Data” business has prepared a report that attempts to “fill in the blanks” of the EGSA survey to provide a more complete picture of the North American market for all Generator Sets powered by a reciprocating engine.
We reviewed and discussed this report at length, and found it very interesting, and agreed that it would be beneficial to all EGSA members to have this information. While this report cannot be considered completely accurate, it does serve as another good reference point and will help provide more information relative to the Power Generation Market Trends, which is the primary objective of this committee.
We will plan to get this report published in one of the next PowerLine issues prior to the next EGSA meeting in September.
Other business: With the departure of Dave Dahlstrom as Chairman and new Committee Chairman was nominated. Brian Berg is the new Committee Chairman.
Chuck Westhofen will remain the Vice Chairman of the Committee.
