CALL FOR APPLICATIONS – 2017
Indian Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery invites applications from eligible candidates for its annual examination, leading to the Fellowship in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. The examinations will be held on (Thursday) 16th November 2017, during the 42nd Annual conference of the AOMSI to be held at Nagpur. Last date for application is 15th, October 2017.
ELIGIBILITY The candidates appearing for the examination should satisfy all the following requirements: -
1. Should be a member of the Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons of India in good standing.
2. Five years experience in clinical practice/teaching/research after MDS in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery or equivalent qualification which is recognized by the Dental Council of India. 3. Submission of a Logbook of surgical practice. (Desirable)
3. The major aim of the IBOMS, in awarding the Fellowship, is to recognize ‘excellence’ and hence the evaluation will be based also on the past performance of the candidate in the teaching of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and his/her contribution to the advancement of the specialty. Each candidate therefore must obtain 30 points to be eligible to appear for the IBOMS.
Calculation of Points
The point system is introduced for ease of assessment by quantifying contributions and achievements.
Publications - On OMFS related topics. (Only the first three authors of the article will be considered) a. Each article published in National / International journals - 10 points b. Each article published in State journals - 5 points c. Editor / Author of book on OMFS - 20 points / book (maximum) d. Contribution to books - 10 point /contribution (maximum)

(Should have more than 50% attendance) - 5 points / year

It is compulsory to attach proof for the above, by producing copies of certificates, letters or other documents along with the application

The examination shall be conducted in three parts:
1. Written examination: There will be MCQs covering all the aspects of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the basic sciences.
2. Case presentation: Each candidate has to present, with full documentation, Two major cases that he has done (as the lead surgeon) during his career.
3. Viva-voce: The examiners will conduct a viva-voce on the various aspects of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and related clinical sciences to assess the candidate’s range and depth of knowledge and excellence in the specialty.
