Making Safe Pty Limited is a small financial services company providing accounting, taxation and financial planning services to the public. Their clients are mainly individuals and small businesses.
Making Safe has an office located in Parramatta. The office is in a small office block attached to a shopping mall. The office is situated on the first floor. There is stair and lift access to the first floor. MS’s actual office consists of a reception area with seating for visitors, a staff tea room, a general office area, a conference/meeting room and nine individual offices. Bathroom facilities are located outside the office and are shared with other offices on the first floor.
The equipment in the MS office consists of: 18 computers – one in each office, one in the reception area and eight in the general office area. Commander telephone system – main switchboard at reception with one handset in each office, ten handsets in general office area, one handset in the staff tea room and one handset in conference/meeting room. Mobile phones – 9 of the 22 staff have been issued a company mobile phone. Desks, office & visitor chairs – situated in each office, reception & general office areas. Photocopier/printer – situated in general office area. Fax machine – situated in general office area. Laminating, binding and shredding machines – situated in general office area. Microwave oven, refrigerator, kettle, sandwich maker, coffee machine, toaster oven and water cooler – situated in staff tea room. Filing cabinets – located in each office and general office area. Compactor storage system – located in general office area. Vacuum cleaner – stored in cleaning cupboard in general office area.
The MS employees are: Three partners – owners of the business One full time & one casual receptionist One full time & two casual office assistant Four part time book keepers Two full time & two part time financial planners Four full time accountants Two part time accountants
The MS office is carpeted throughout with the exception of the staff tea room which has vinyl floor covering.

You have been employed by Making Safe Pty Limited as an Occupational Health & Safety consultant to assist them in complying with the Occupational Health & Safety Act 2000 and Regulations 2001. The partners have asked you to formulate a report on all aspects of OH&S applicable to Making Safe Pty Limited including the company OH&S policies and procedures which must be documented and implemented.
Your report will include:
General overview of OH&S legislation & authorities who monitor implementation.
Responsibilities of employers and employees under the legislation.
Hazard identification checklist for MS (complete the attached checklist)
Risk analysis for MS
OH&S action plan for MS – this should include timeframes for hazard control and monitoring, staff training (how and when would this happen), and timeframe for implementation of OHS policies and procedures.
