Daniel S. Townsend, a son of Ezekiel and Elizabeth (Stout) Townsend, was born in Lewis County VA (WV) about 1818. He married Nancy P. Stout in Lewis County VA (WV) February 26, 1840. Nancy, a daughter of Hezekiah and Sarah (Cline) Stout, was born in Lewis County about 1824.

4.NANCY PENELOPE TOWNSEND 1.EZEKIEL TOWNSEND

Nancy Penelope Townsend, a daughter of Ezekiel and Elizabeth (Stout) Townsend, was born in Lewis County VA (WV) February 11, 1828. She married Henry McCoy Jack May 8, 1852. Henry, a son of Jacob and Ester (Siron) Jack, was born in present day Highland County VA November 9, 1926. He served the Confederacy in the Civil War, enlisting in Co D 31st VA Infantry July 20, 1861 and serving until August 1863. The couple moved from Upshur County WV to Braxton County WV in November 1859.

Granville Townsend, a son of Ezekiel and Elizabeth (Stout) Townsend, was born in Lewis County VA (WV) in May 1832. He married Elizabeth Jane Shock. Elizabeth, a daughter of John and Mary (Troxell) Shock, was born in Augusta County VA in September 1839. The family is listed in the 1860 and 1900 Gilmer County WV census. In the 1900 census, they had been married 41 years, Elizabeth was the mother of 8 children, with 7 living.

Zelphia, a daughter of Patterson and Mary E. (Coberly) Piercy, was born in Gilmer county about 1854 and died there before 1896. Elliot married Sarah M. “Maggie” (Messenger) Layfield in Gilmer County February 2, 1896. Maggie, a daughter of Peter and Mary E. (Carson) Messenger, was born in Gilmer County in April 1857. She was the widow of ---- Layfield. Sarah is listed as “Sarah M. Townsend” in the 1930 Gilmer County WV census. She is a 72 year old widow.
