Animal Project

You have been hired by the Jacksonville Zoo as their animal exhibit designer. A great deal of planning and research goes into creating a zoo habitat. The animal exhibit designer needs to research and be able to present, to the zoo board of directors, a plan for this new animal exhibit.

Assignment – You will be given an animal to research. You are required to use at least 3 different sources, such as encyclopedias, library books, magazine articles, or the Internet to complete your research. This is the minimum amount of information you need to include in your 1-page research paper:

o Classification type (i.e., vertebrate or invertebrate) o Classification chart (see pg. A40) o Where it lives in the world (include on map) o Habitat – biome, climate, flora, fauna o Diet o Website address with a photo of your animal for the class slide show o Additional interesting and accurate information about your animal o A bibliography of all your sources

Then, use the information you found during your research to create a three-dimensional model of the proposed zoo exhibit. In the zoo exhibit, you will need to recreate your animal’s natural habitat as closely as possible. Make sure you include a realistic model of the animal, realistic plant life, and a representation of what they eat. You will present your report and the exhibit to the class. During this presentation, you are only allowed to use note cards. Presentation must be rehearsed and last between 3-5 minutes. ****NO LIVE PLANTS OR ANIMALS ALLOWED IN THE EXHIBIT***** ****MAKE SURE ALL INFORMATION IS IN YOUR OWN WORDS – DO NOT PLAGIARIZE****

(Detach and return this portion to your teacher by Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006)

I have received an animal project instruction sheet. I understand the requirements for this project. I understand that this project is due on Tuesday, September 12, 2006.
