Speaker Profile

Ir. Leo Kwok Kee LEUNG, DIC, FHKIE, FIStructE, FICE, is an Executive Director of Hopewell Highway Infrastructure Ltd [listed in the Stock Exchange (Code: 737) in August 2003], headed by Sir Gordon Wu and his son Mr. Thomas Wu.

He is responsible for the planning, design, engineering and construction of projects within the Group. He joined Hopewell in 1978 and rejoined in 1993. He was awarded a Bachelor of Science Degree with First Class Honours in Civil Engineering as well as the Institution of Civil Engineers’ Prize for his outstanding undergraduate performance in 1983 and a Master of Science degree with Distinction in Earthquake Engineering and Structural Dynamics from Imperial College, University of London. Prior to joining the Hopewell Group, he worked in Singapore (for the Mass Transit Railway), Kenya (in Nairobi for the Central Bank of Kenya), England and Hong Kong for a large number of projects and acquired a wide range of experiences in highway bridges, buildings designs and constructions, slipform and climbform techniques, dam and tunnel structures. During his time with Hopewell, Leo had completed the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Superhighway (123km) and Guangzhou E-S-W Road (38km) as well as a variety of projects within Hopewell. In the past three years, he has been assisting Sir Gordon Wu to plan and to develop the concept and details of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge. Synopsis

Over the past 2 years, there has been a lot of public debate as to whether the fixed crossing should be built? The speaker will examine the implications of Hong Kong’s position with the addition or the omission of this crossing.

The speaker will share some of his experiences in the early planning of this Bridge. He will look at this bridge not only from an engineering point of view, but also from the economic trend of the world and the Hong Kong’s economic integration with the Pearl River Delta.
