NEW PROVIDENCE SCHOOL DISTRICT GRADES 7-8 STUDENT GOOGLE APPS ACKNOWLEDGMENT AND PERMISSION FORM

During the 2014-2015 school year, Google Apps for Education has been chosen by New Providence School District an integrated communication and collaboration solution that allows students, faculty and staff to communicate, collaborate on documents, spreadsheets, and presentations in real time from school, work, or home. In addition, students will have additional storage for other files they may need to use between home and school.

By signing the form below, you give permission for your student to create and manage classroom documents in the New Providence School District Google Apps for Education environment.

As with any educational initiative, we feel that a strong partnership with families is essential to a successful experience. Therefore, we are asking your permission to provide a Google Apps account to your child. Parents and/or legal guardians: please read this Acknowledgment and Permission Form and, if you agree with the terms and conditions, please return the signed and completed form your child’s teacher.

What is Google Apps for Education?: Google Apps for Education allows school districts to manage a special Google domain/area for their staff and students to use cloud-based computing tools to create documents, spreadsheets and presentations in a closed collaborative environment. The New Providence School District Google domain gives staff and students access to their school documents from the classroom, the public library and even from home. In our efforts to prepare students to be responsible citizens in the dynamic global society of the 21st Century, Google Apps provides tools for 21st Century collaborative teaching and learning.

Google Accounts for Grades 7-8: Students in grades 7-8 will have access to Google Drive for the purpose of creating, storing, and managing school files in the New Providence Google for Education domain. Students in grades 7-8 will also be given a @npsdnj.org email address to be used for school purposes only.

Email Access: Email access for New Providence Middle School students will be restricted to within the New Providence School District. This means that students can only send and receive email and Google documents to and from other students and teachers.

Access Restriction: Access to and use of Google Apps for Education is considered a privilege given at the discretion of the New Providence School District. The District maintains the right to immediately withdraw the access and use of the account when there is reason to believe that violations of law or District Board policies have occurred. In such cases, the alleged violation will be referred to the Principal for further investigation and application of necessary consequences as indicated in the Student Code of Conduct.

Conduct: Students are responsible for good behavior just as they are in a traditional school building. It is illegal to use obscene, profane, threatening, or disrespectful language. Communication with others should always be course related. Students should never use Google Docs to create any type of document

1 that they wouldn’t mind seeing on the school bulletin board or in the local newspaper. Students should notify the teacher of anything inappropriate or that makes them uncomfortable. Bullying will not be tolerated and the privacy of others should be respected at all times.

Privacy: The Board of Education reserves the right to access and review content in the Google Apps for Education system at any time. The Board of Education complies with all state and federal privacy laws.

Google Apps for Education Acknowledgment and Permission

Use of Google Apps for Education is subject to the District Policy 2361, Acceptable Use of Computer Networks/Computers and Resources and can be found online at http://www.npsd.k12.nj.us/districtpolicies.
