Title: Institutional Donor Funding Manager

Position: 35 hours per week 18-month fixed term contract (subject to extension)

Location: London Approximately 10 weeks of overseas travel over the 18-month period

Salary: Competitive

Reports to: Executive Director, World Learning Europe Indirect Report: Divisional Vice President, Business Development Unit, Washington

Liaises with: World Learning Business Development and Programme Units; Country Offices World Learning Europe Consultants

Reach and Impact: This role will expect to generate five and six figure sums for World Learning’s international work from European Institutional donors

Context World Learning is an established international NGO with its headquarters in Washington DC, empowering people and strengthening institutions through education, sustainable development and exchange programmes. In 2015 World Learning Europe was established in London as a social enterprise to build on World Learning’s mission to create the change necessary for a more equal, prosperous and peaceful world.

For over 85 years World Learning has been passionate about education and building individual and organisational capacity whether that’s supporting teachers to develop refugee children-centred learning approaches in Lebanon; working with civil society activists to build vibrant democracies in Myanmar, narrowing the employment gap in Pakistan or helping young women access the hard and soft skills they need to find relevant jobs.

Purpose of the role

The post-holder will work with our London and International programme and business development teams to develop high quality proposals to secure funding and support an ambitious global business development strategy. As part of a small team in London, s/he will lead on the development and implementation of the European institutional income stream (mainly DFID/EU), whilst actively representing World Learning at meetings and networking events. As a self-starter, s/he can also expect to be involved in programme design and all aspects of proposal development.

Main Responsibilities

1. Collect and organise pre-bid proposal documentation and facilitate and participate in relevant strategy discussions 2. Facilitate the bid/no bid evaluation process for funding opportunities, guiding technical units and leadership through a decision-making process that ensures opportunities align with World Learning strategic priorities 3. Lead and manage proposals, including coordinating teams of staff (in the field and in World Learning’s US office) and partners to develop content for bids where World Learning may be a sub or a lead 4. Perform other roles in proposal development as assigned, including writing sections, reviewing budgets, and performing research 5. Work with legal/finance teams to ensure proposals are responsive, compliant and demonstrate value for money 6. To drive change through the measurement and management of fundraising data - with a demonstrable record of success in growing both donor volumes and donor value through data insight 7. Support the development of proposal tools, such as schedules, templates and compliance matrices 8. Contribute to building the capacity of World Learning staff worldwide on donor reporting, proposal and content development 9. Represent World Learning at early market-engagement meetings, conferences, and networking events 10. Overseas travel, as needed as part of the proposal preparation/development process 11. Other duties as required

Requirements

Essential

 Demonstrable track record in developing and coordinating successful five and six figure sum proposals for DFID and or EU in the areas of education, civil society or inclusion  Familiarity with DFID/EU funding policies and typical contract rules and procedures  Ability to lead and work collaboratively with teams across multiple countries to meet tight deadlines  Strong communication and negotiation skills  Excellent written and spoken English  Ability to think and work under pressure or when faced with competing demands  A demonstrable ability to think critically, objectively, analytically and strategically  The capacity to build and maintain excellent relationships and to work effectively in a multicultural environment respecting diversity and inclusion  Experience of formulating and managing budgets  The right to live and work in the UK

Desirable

 Working knowledge of French and/or Arabic

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check

A role appropriate DBS check will be required at the time of the post holder being asked to work with vulnerable groups as part of overseas travel.
