Geographic Information Systems Specialist I

Definition:

Kenny Construction Company is currently seeking a GIS Specialist I to provide a broad range of mapping and geospatial database services for assistance in overall project GIS support. Under direction of project management and a GIS Manger, the candidate will support the construction management function with the integration of the GIS environment while adhering to the GIS policies and procedures, standards, and the accuracy and consistency of the GIS information. The position will take place either in our Norristown or Allentown Pennsylvania offices and some travel will be required.

Examples of Duties:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Performing basic GIS analysis and mapping duties in overall project support using ESRI GIS Software. Maintaining and administering applicable GIS systems; developing, interpreting and maintaining GPS data; gathering and verifying field data for utilization in mapping applications; preparing GIS layers, datasets and hardcopy maps, for use by other staff or other organizations requesting assistance; participating in field during global positioning system (GPS) data collection projects and integrating GPS data with GIS; performing GIS data conversions, and assistance with maintaining project QA/QC and document control.

Minimum Training, Education and Experience

Qualifications include an appropriate combination of education, training, course work and experience. An example of an acceptable qualification is a Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in GIS, cartography, geography, computer science, natural resources, or related field. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of progressive experience with ESRI GIS applications and relational database management systems; experience and knowledge with using ArcGIS Server, ArcSDE databases, ArcGIS Online and AutoCAD. Familiarity with JavaScript and knowledge of GIS and GPS techniques, methodologies and applications; Skills in computer cartographic design, layout, and production for a variety of different subject matter.

Additional Skills to be Considered Above and Beyond

Experience related to the incorporation of GIS with utility construction; knowledge of principles of surveying, mapping, global positioning systems, and usage of aerial photography and satellite imaging; principles and capabilities of computer systems, including networked environments and peripheral devices; GIS application software, structured query language, spatial and tabular databases. Understanding and working with data from multiple public and private sources; assessing, analyzing, identifying and recommending solutions to problems.
