Description: Graphic Design is a class that teaches art and technology. In this class students will use design as a creative process in communication. Students will also explore various methods used to create and combine words, symbols, and images to create a visual representation of ideas and messages. Students will use the basic elements and principles of art and also learn how to use the computer programs Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. This class teaches the basics of Graphic Design through an illustrative and corporate view.

Course Objectives:

Completing the Graphic Design program the student will:

Learn the basics of Successful Design. Learn the "language" of visual design. Learn to apply basic design concepts to Commercial Design. Learn to creatively solve design problems. Learn to manage design projects. Learn to structure an ad campaign from a Graphic Designer's perspective. Learn how to use Adobe Illustrator as a Design Program Learn how to use Adobe Photoshop as a photo editor Combine Art, Photography and Illustration. Graphic Arts Mr. Ostrom’s Lab 2015-2016

Class Fees:

Graphic Design has a $5.00 class fee. This class fee is for the printing and materials used in the classroom. All major projects will be printed and presented appropriately as the finished project. If the student does not pay the class fee he/she will be put on the school debt list. The class fee is to be paid to the teacher only at the beginning of the semester

Classroom Procedures:

Students will come to class and take a seat at their computer before the tardy bell rings. Students are asked to take out their project and/or turn your computer on to begin class. Independent work is to be done quietly and I ask for students to stay focused and on task.

Extended Learning: Coding Students will use various coding programs to develop videos which may include Alice, Scratch, and Code.org

Materials Needed Every Day  Folder  Paper  Pen or pencil – please use a legible ink  Agenda  4 Gb USB Thumb Drive

Grading: 100% of the grading system includes the following areas:

Class work 30%: (Including daily activities, class participation, and homework)

I. Attitude in class. Not talking to neighbors. At the correct computer. II. Raising hand to talk. III. Working the whole class period. IV. Participating in group discussions.

Projects 70%:

The First Three Weeks will be Typing Review and the grading will be as follows.

100 points will be given on a daily basis according to the rubric below.

(Including daily activities, class participation, and homework) Class Grading System: A = 90-100 B = 80-89 C = 70-79 D = 60-69

Expectations According To PBIS: 1) Be Responsible by not eating or drinking in class. 2) Be Responsible by not harming the computers in ANY way. 3) Be Responsible and do not wander around the room aimlessly. 4) You will respect yourself by completing your work. 5) You will respect me by paying attention when asked. 6) You will respect your classmates by allowing them to speak and receive help. 7) Be Safe and keep your hands, feet and objects to yourself. 8) Be Safe use Materials appropriately No Cell Phones, MP3, IPODS, etc in class at any time!!!

3 Graphic Arts Mr. Ostrom’s Lab 2015-2016 Consequences: Disruptions in the classroom will not be tolerated. Disruptions and misbehavior will be handled according to the student handbook. These consequences may include:

 Warning, Private Conference  CONTACTING YOUR PARENT/GUARDIAN at the time of incident.  Detention, Parental Conference  Office Referral

Make Up Policy: Upon the student’s return to class with an excused absence, he or she will be given a reasonable period of time to make up all work as noted in the school student handbook. Exceptions will be made only for extended, excused absences. Those students with unexcused absences will be given zeros for any missed assignments. No make up work ill be accepted the last week of the grading term. Long term projects are due on the assigned date with no exceptions. Make up work must be done by prior arrangement. Please let me know one day in advance that you are coming in for makeup work. Tests and presentations must be made up with prior notice. Be Sure To Add Contact Information and Sign the Back Copy and Return to Mr. Ostrom
