[1512] 2 1 Whereas, the new cigarette tax increase will provide recurring 2 funding for tobacco prevention and cessation programs, thus 3 helping South Carolina save lives by reducing smoking-caused 4 heart disease, lung cancer, and other diseases; and 5 6 Whereas, the South Carolina Tobacco Collaborative and its 7 member organizations rallied thousands of volunteers to advocate 8 for a cigarette tax increase to improve our state’s public health; 9 and 10 11 Whereas, the 2010 increase in South Carolina’s cigarette tax has 12 been applauded by public health organizations and advocates 13 across the United States. Now, therefore, 14 15 Be it resolved by the Senate: 16 17 That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, recognize each 18 of the members of the South Carolina Tobacco Collaborative for 19 their dedicated work to improving public health in South Carolina. 20 21 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 22 the South Carolina Tobacco Collaborative and its member 23 organizations. 24 XX 25
