This Group Offers Walks for Reasonably Fit Walkers and Those Who Want to Improve Their

 Join us! This group offers walks for reasonably fit walkers and those who want to improve their fitness and stamina. We like to get out in all weathers, take in the scenery, enjoy each others company and pay a visit to a local pub after the walk. We have a few weekends away each year. We require that those who wish to come along on a weekend event attend at least 2 group walks in the previous six months. This allows us to get to know you and understand your fitness level. Walks are often but not always dog friendly. They can vary in speed and between easy, moderate and strenuous. This will be indicated in the description of each walk. Please make sure you read the walk details fully before you RSVP to attend. If in doubt about your fitness for a particular walk, please contact the event host before putting your name down for it. If you enjoy walking, keeping fit & socialising at the same time then please come and join us. It will be good to meet you - we are a very friendly bunch. Please take time to view all the important messages below: There is currently a donation of £1 per person per walk. This is a not for profit group. The money collected is first allocated to pay the Meetup company for using their website facilities. Some money is given to the event host to reimburse their fuel and parking costs for providing the walk (especially as they may have previously done the walk on their own to check it's suitability). Any remaining funds will be donated to charity: our current nominated charity is Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Clothing, equipment and food: The great British weather is unpredictable, especially when walking in the hills. You don't need to spend a fortune on the latest gear. The basics should include walking trousers or shorts (not denim), waterproof coat and over-trousers, hat, gloves, back-pack and suitable stout footwear. We do encounter plenty of mud so gaiters are a useful addition to your kit. It's wise to have your own basic first aid kit and don't forget the sun- cream and insect repellent in the summer. The event host may turn away anyone who they don't feel is suitably equipped for the walk. Unless stated otherwise there are no cafe or pub stops during the walk, only at the end, so bring plenty of food and drink for breaks and lunch stops. You should always follow the country code and take all your litter home with you, including those banana skins. Safety & Medical conditions: Our event hosts do not have formal walk-leader qualifications. We require that all walks have had a recce and that the walk is safe and suitable for the group size. The event host should give a relatively accurate description of the walk and its length and should not get you lost. You always remain responsible for your own safety but do need to let the event host know in advance if you have any medical conditions which might affect you during a walk. The event host has to cater for the slowest walker in the group. Walk descriptions will give you an approximate time the walk will finish but this may change depending on conditions and the ability of the group. Please make sure you have allowed enough time to complete the walk with the group. On rare occasions, slow walkers who are struggling may be asked to return to the start if the host feels they aren't fit enough to complete the walk. Please keep to the pace of the group and don't go off ahead even if you think you know the route. You may miss an important turn and end up lost! Booking: Please don't turn up to a walk if you haven't actually RSVP'd (booked) it, as you might have to be turned away. Walk numbers may be limited due to car-parking, safety or suitability of the route for larger groups. If you decide you would like to attend at short notice please contact the event host first. We usually have people who drop out at the last minute so the chances are that you would be able to come. Latecomers: We can get very cold standing around waiting. The event host may give a few minutes grace for walkers on the list who are a bit late, but please arrive in plenty of time to start the walk at the appointed time. No shows and drop-outs: If you book a place and don't show up it may deny another walker a chance to attend. It also means the host may be holding the group up waiting for you. Please review your RSVP at least a week before the walk. If you are not sure you will be able to attend please change it to 'no'. If you find you are unable to attend please do your best to give at least 24 hours notice. If a last minute unforeseen event on the day stops you from going, please telephone the event host. Their number should be posted on the walk page 24 hours before the event. Otherwise you will be recorded as a 'no show'. We appreciate that the unforeseen can happen but members who regularly 'no-show' may be subsequently removed from the group. Members who persistently RSVP for walks and drop out at the last minute may be removed from walks which have a waiting list
