Keys To Successful Ministry As A Team Leader

Keys to successful Ministry as a Team Leader

1. Seek the love of God and not others. “Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well…” Matthew 6:33. We all stand and fall before God, not each other. Help them eliminate all competition and comparison. 2. Know your team. Know their walk with Jesus. How did they meet him, what are they learning in quiet times? Is their relationship with Jesus the most important in their own life? Encourage them to be involved in a bible study and a church. 3. Pray for your team – let them know you’re doing it. Trust God to work. Be sure to set a specific time to pray for your leaders, your ministry with them, and their work with high school friends. Pray together. 4. Know and use the gifts of your teammates. Most leaders that say no to something do so because they have never tried it before. Leaders who are up front also need to “earn the right to be heard.” Set your teammates up for success. 5. Don’t overextend your team. They have a life outside of Young Life. 6. Replace yourself. Are you giving others the vision? Are you raising someone up to care for leaders? Who will be the next team leader? 7. Delegate responsibilities. Don’t allow sarcasm, gossip, and/or comparisons enter into the team’s makeup. It’s okay to say NO, as a matter of fact, it’s your responsibility to say NO. Step up and make the call on things that aren’t appropriate – a leader’s behavior, a skit, etc.
