JOB TITLE: Executive Vice President

ORGANIZATION: Columbia Chamber of Commerce

REPORTS TO: Chamber President

SCOPE OF FUNCTION: Working under the direction of the President, the Executive Vice President is responsible for coordinating specific programs and other duties as assigned by the President.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. The Executive Vice President is responsible for helping to identify Chamber and community needs, and making recommendations for changes to the Board of Directors. 2. Working through the Chamber President, the Executive Vice President will be responsible for the activities of the Emerging Needs Committee. 3. Assists the President and the Board of Directors in preparation of statements of Chamber position on public issues. Establishes legislative relationships/develops and articulates Chamber positions. Organize campaigns on political issues and have strong rapport with local politicians. 4. Works to recruit and motivate a broad cross-section of volunteers to ensure effectiveness of Chamber of Commerce programs. 5. Provides for economic development services through: (a) Providing business investors and decision makers’ accurate information on Columbia and Boone County as a favorable business environment. (b) Organize with REDI a visitation program for existing business in Columbia/Boone County area. (c) Cultivating working relationships with other economic development organizations such as Regional Economic Development Incorporated (REDI). (d) Encouraging entrepreneurial development. (e) Promoting and developing international trips and opportunities for Chamber members. (f) Works with Centennial Investors angel network to assist in matching available investors to qualified projects. (g) Work with regional economic development groups to strengthen the relationship of the region’s population centers for the good of the region. 6. Must work to help maintain and develop the membership at a level, which will ensure necessary income for operation of the program. 7. Responsible for organizing and coordinating numerous Chamber functions for assigned committee meetings, seminars, and mixers. 8. Performs other related duties and special projects at the request of the Chamber President and Chamber Board of Directors.

ACCOUNTABILITY: Works under the direction of the President using appropriate discretion in performing the duties of the position. The Executive Vice President is accountable for providing effective and efficient direction and coordination of the activities of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce in accordance with established organizational goals and objectives.

CONTACTS:

Internal: Chamber President and Chamber Board of Directors

External: Community Leaders, City, County and University Representatives, REDI, Centennial Investors angel network, life science incubator, Missouri Ingenuity Corporation, all city/county/state representatives, and regional economic development organizations.

REPORTS: Regularly reviews operations of assigned Chamber projects and reports to the Chamber President.

PLANNING: Participates in and gives direction to both long and short range planning for the Columbia Chamber of Commerce, and is involved in the shaping of overall organizational goals and objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent analytical and communication skills; leadership and interpersonal skills to organize, direct and motivate organization; be able to strategize established goals and objectives; be capable of active communication/rapport with community leadership including political representatives; and ideally possesses experience in issue campaigns. The Executive Vice President should have completed at least a four-year college course of study. The Executive Vice President must have good business savvy and a presence in the political arena. Three to five years managerial experience in association work or equivalent corporate experience is preferred.
