Course Description: Academics - This is the first Aerospace Science course for all new cadets. It is an aviation history course focusing on the development of flight throughout the centuries. The aviation history course provides students a background of the development of flight from early myths to the present as part of an historical overview of American warfare. Students will focus on aviation issues, objectives, strategy, technology, scientific advances, forces, milestones, and assessments. Students examine major figures in aviation history while investigating the heritage of flight, the development of air power through the use of scientific knowledge, the historic role of airpower during wartime, aerospace aviation technological advances, and contemporary aviation. Throughout the course, there are readings, videos, hands-on activities, and in-text and student workbook exercises to guide in the reinforcement of the materials.

Leadership –This section introduces cadets to the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) program providing a basis for progression through the rest of the AFJROTC program while instilling elements of good citizenship. It contains sections on cadet and Air Force organizational structure; uniform wear; customs, courtesies, and other military traditions; health and wellness; fitness; individual self-control; and citizenship. The Wellness/Physical Fitness portion will incorporate the Cadet Health and Wellness Program (CHWP). Drill per AFM 36-2203 (Chapters 1-7). Dress and Appearance per AFI 36-2903 (Chapters 1/3).

Required Materials: AFJROTC uniform, PT Uniform, Cadet Guide/Handbook, pencils (or pens) and paper.

Classroom Expectations: Follow school rules posted and follow rules outlined in the Cadet Guide. Disruptive behavior in the classroom will cause points to be deducted from a cadet’s leadership grade.

Late Assignments: Each cadet is responsible for contacting the instructor and getting their missed work when returning to school from an excused absence. The assignments must be completed within three (3) days of their return from an excused absence. A grade of zero (0) will be given for all work not made up within this three day period. If the absence includes a uniform wear day (Tuesday) then the cadet must wear their uniform upon the first day of their return to school. Full credit for missed work is only given for excused absences. Unexcused absences will not receive an opportunity to make-up worked missed.

Make-up Policy: Make-up for missed work must be scheduled with the instructor. This work can only be completed outside of the normal class hours.

Re-do Policy: Students are encouraged to re-do academic assignments until they get it right.

Incomplete Assignments: An "I" will be given for assignments that were attempted but fell short of meeting acceptable course/grading standards. Students will be given an opportunity to re-do the assignment to meet the course/grading standards.
