• Be original and creative when creating your book jacket. • You may use the computer to type out your information and paste onto book jacket or you may write out very neatly onto book jacket. • Take a look at sample book jackets so you have a clear idea what the end product should look like. • Have Fun!

Book Spine ● Use creative lettering to design the spine for your book jacket ● Include the title of the book and the author’s name ● Include Bright colors that will attract a reader to pull your book

Character Analysis—FIRST FLAP ON INSIDE 1. Name the strongest character trait about the main character in the book and the supporting character in the book. IE- … Stanley Yelnats and Hector Zeroni (Zero) 2. Why do you think this trait matches your character? 3. Talk about one incident in the story that supports the trait you gave the main /supporting character. EXAMPLE: Stanley Yelnats was a courageous leader. He took a punishment he knew he did not deserve because he believed in following the law. Stanley made friends easily so this tell me that he is friendly as well. The other campers begin to look up to Stanley because he stand up to the leaders that are running the camp. One event that took place in the book that makes Stanley courageous was when he ran after Zero even though he knew he would get in more trouble and probably die in the desert. He stood up for what he believed in.

Book Summary: Second Flap on the inside Write a summary of the book without giving away all the good parts and plots that took place in the book. EXAMPLE: Stanley Yelnats was sent to Camp Green Lake for a crime he did not commit. At this camp, Stanley learns that he becomes the hero for the other boys there at the Camp Green Lake. Stanley is surprised to have such honor. His leadership challenges him to stand up and be supportive to another inmate who needs him the most. This story takes a dramatic turn that shows how one person can make history repeats itself and make dreams come true.

EXAMPLE: I thought the book was awesome! I love how the author kept me in suspense and wanting to never put the book down. The author did a great job describing the characters and the setting. The way he talked about the setting and the mood of the story made me believe that I was there. Once you pick this book up you will never want to put it down.

Author Analysis: Tell a little bit about the author and how many awards he/she won. Tell where he/she is from and how long he/she has been writing. Tell why he/she wrote the book you are writing about.

EXAMPLE: Louis Sachar is a renowned author who began to write children books because he worked as a teacher’s aide and loved being around children. This job inspired him to write. He currently lives in Austin Texas where he continues to write. Louis won many awards including the Newbery award. Holes has been made into a Disney Motion Movie where the reviews are great!

Part 3: Research: How To Adopt a Dog (You will need the internet to complete this project.)

This project you will create a Google Slide presentation or a poster board showing the 5 major steps that you need to do in order to adopt a dog.

Part 3: Setting Map

For this project, you will create a map of the setting of the story. Think about the important places in the story. You can look back over your discussion questions for clues of important places.

● First, plan your map. Where will the most important places be? What landmarks from the story will you include? You must have at least 5 places marked on your map. ● Next, think about how you will identify each place. You can use a key, as well as labels on the map itself. ● Finally, draw your map. Read the rubric to be sure you have met all the requirements.

Part 3: Timeline

Objective: To create a visual timeline for the book Shiloh.

Process: ● Read each chapter. Make note of an important event in each chapter. Use the timeline organizer for notetaking. Pay close attention to the who, what, when, where, how and why. Process: ● Read each chapter. Make note of unfamiliar and/or interesting words.
