NO. ITEM ACTION DATE 1. COMMONWEALTH GAMES REVIEW

Queen’s Baton Relay / City Centre Events A number of the executive committee members were directly involved in the Queen’s Baton Relay and thought it went fantastically. James Fenna reported that Dundee had more events on than any other area for the QBR with events taking place at Lochee Park, Camperdown, McTaggart, Caird Park and Douglas Sports Centre as well as other locations.

The Come & Try event in the city centre that coincided with the Commonwealth Games was also a success with lots of positive feedback from organisers and participants. LACD now plan to hold a similar event at the end of May.

SportDundee Commonwealth Games Challenge There was mixed success with this project. Some clubs ran very successful events / sessions while others had no participants at all. If a similar project was done in the future, promotion should be done further in advance.

2. IDEAS FOR FUTURE SPORTDUNDEE EVENTS

Following discussion, the group agreed to set up a sub-group to look at the following:

- Transition event for an identified school cluster (June 2015) - City Centre come & try event (August 2015) - Central venue event (i.e. at DISC – date to be discussed)

If any members of the SportDundee Executive Committee would like to sit on the sub-group please let the Secretary know by the end November.

James Fenna also mentioned a ‘Fit for Girls’ programme being launched this month which will involve a citywide drive to increase girls’ participation. Once more details are known, SportDundee clubs could link with schools to provide participation opportunities. 3. FINANCE SUB-GROUP UPDATE

Grant Aid Applications A list of grants considered in November 2014 will be circulated with the minutes. Approximately £4800 was awarded. NO. ITEM ACTION DATE Treasurer’s Report The treasurer reported before the meeting that there was a surplus of £910 in the general fund.

Ideas for General Fund expenditure There have been a couple of requests for SportDundee to purchase equipment that could be used by any affiliated clubs or associations. Suggestions have included a tent / gazebo to be used at outdoor events and also a PA system. Small goals were also suggested.

The Executive Committee agreed to purchase this equipment. Harry Byers to HB provide quotes.

4. DEVELOPMENT GROUP ISSUES / CLUB ISSUES

Netball Netball Dundee kicked off their second season at the Lynch Sports Centre in Dundee, welcoming teams from in and around Dundee, new teams from Fife and Arbroath and Angus. It was a fantastic day of netball and its great to have more court space at the Lynch with both halls now marked for netball.

NetballScotland will be bringing a Scottish Thistles Roadshow to Dundee on 6 December 2014 with the national squad to sign autographs, do a few events encouraging young school children to participate and to see ball skills and various top athlete moves, which should be very popular.

The Netball Dundee League managing committee have agreed that our Netball Dundee participants will help alongside SportDundee, Active Schools, Leisure & Culture Dundee and Dundee Academy of Sport to make the event a success.

Menzieshill Whitehall Swimming & Water Polo Club The club is planning to take a group of capable swimmers on a training camp to T3, La Caleta, Tenerife. The training camp is planned for October 2015 for one week.

The club has asked if there is any funding available for the trip as it is currently costings £800 per person. The trip does not meet the criteria for any SportDundee grant funding. Other clubs who have organised similar trips have concentrated on securing sponsorship to assist with costs.

Hockey There has been an issue with the hockey boards at St Andrews PS. James Fenna has negotiated a budget through Education for the repair / replacement of sports equipment required by clubs at school facilities. This has led to the repair of the boards although Midland Hockey are looking into the purchase of another set of boards.

It was also reported that the scoreboard / clock at Douglas SC is not working which is detrimental to the indoor hockey league participants. The Secretary will contact the centre to request that this is sorted out.

Cricket Forfarshire Cricket Club and Cricket Dundee have requested permission for work to be done at Eastern PS to make the hall safer for cricketers. This includes an upgrade to the cricket nets, the painting of the wall at the bowlers end of the hall and improved lighting. Again, this is an issue that James Fenna has raised with Education and it is hoped there will be progress with this in the near future.
